Left Behind
Author: Tim LaHayes

2/17/2014

Left Behind is a story of transformation, faith, and salvation. The world is changed when millions of people worldwide suddenly vanish. People everywhere are saddened with their losses and the inference it has on the world. Many theories arise and people attempt to make sense of the events. One of these theories is that Christ has come back and raptured his church. A core group of followers at the New Hope Village Church believe that the end days are here as is outlined in the Book of Revelation in the Bible. As the Bible predicts, there will be seven years of trials and tribulations where the Antichrist will rise to power and wield his might. Many more will die before the seven years are finished, but for those that remain, they will witness the Magnificent Appearance of Christ. Directly two people are affected : Rayford Steele, an airline pilot, and Cameron "Buck" Williams, an internationally renowned news writer. Both are very much affected by the disappearances and both find different ways to deal with the consequences of its affect. Rayford Steele is piloting a plane headed toward London when the rapture occurs. His mind immediately goes to his wife and son who are highly religious people. From the beginning, he knows the church has been raptured and he is left behind. Along with himself, his daughter Chloe is also left behind. As Rayford mends his sinful ways, he also prays for Chloe's salvation in a worried attempt to save her soul.
As a seasoned journalist, Buck Williams keeps an objective eye on the story, which has global implications. At the same time as the disappearances, there is a young man making a sudden rise in the political realm. Nicolae Carpathia appears to be the answer to everyone's prayers. A odd and powerful person, he comes off as meek and humble. However, as Buck's investigation ensues and he encounters Bruce Barnes and the rest of the Tribulation Force, he

After Big Sur and spending the night in Pacifica we went further north to San Francisco. When we spent the night in Pacifica our hotel was right near the ocean. It was such a beautiful view to wake up to. I just absolutely love the sound of the ocean. In San Francisco we went over the Golden Gate Bridge. It was a pretty cool thing to see with the views of San Francisco and the ocean. We then went to the park across from the Painted Ladies. The Painted Ladies are the houses that appear in the background of the opening of the original Full House series. It was an awesome thing to go see as I grew up watching Full House and will still watch it from time to time. Once we were done at the park we went to the San Francisco Giants stadium. Although…

Early yesterday morning, I saw that Cecilia Kang at the Washington Post had a story up about the years-long fight for white spaces entitled: Tech, telecom giants take sides as FCC proposes large public WiFi networks. It struck me as odd, because so much in the article seemed... wrong or misleading. The main part about efforts to finally do something with the old TV spectrum isn't anything new at all. We first wrote about the FCC "proposing" this back in 2004 and have covered it a few times since. The FCC has been trying to use some of that TV spectrum for better, more efficient and more useful endeavors. It's been an ongoing battle that feels like it's never going to end. The short version is that TV broadcasters got a ton of free spectrum many years ago (just look at how giant chunks of the spectrum chart belong to TV broadcasters). A big part of the move to digital TV was to force broadcasters to give up a chunk of wasted, valuable spectrum that can be turned into (among other things) some useful wireless services. TV broadcasters hate this and have been fighting it in a variety of ways.…

Both summer reading books incorporate Biblical elements by having things that involve temptation and the apocalypse. Mae is tempted with the positon at the Circle and from that temptation leads her to turn her back on many people. Mercer is trying to get Mae to understand how much she changed, “‘it’s eliminated my abilities to just talk to you … I can’t send you emails, because you immediately forward them to someone else’ ” (Eggers 146). Her judgment is clouded by the Circle and everyone in it. She has forgotten everything about the past and is only trying to work to better herself in the corporation. Hortense first believed that the apocalypse would occur on January 1, 1925 yet, “she had been disappointed! But the wounds of 1925 had healed, and [she] was once again ready to be convinced that apocalypse, just as the right holy Mr. Rangeford had explained was around the corner…1975 looked like the last chance” (Smith 46).…
