Social Competence And Emotional Competence

The development of social competence and emotional competence is very important for young children because they are linked to social skills and self-regulation that affect children's everyday life. CSEFEL (2016) introduce some strategies for behavior problems, such as taking turns and sharing, and effective teaching techniques to promote children to learn social competence and emotional competence. In addition, CSEFEL (2016) introduce the 3 Stages, Show and Tell, Practice, and Maintain, which will support teaching children to master the important skills they learn. Taking turns is one of important skills for young children to learn, and some children have problem taking turns. When children have a problem in taking turns, teachers can simply
explain the importance of taking turns and show an example to teach young children by reading a book and modeling (CSEFEL, 2016). Also, the teacher needs to teach children how to help each other because it linked to social competence and emotional competence. Helping the others enhance self-confidence and self-esteem because it makes the child feel better. The teacher can provide an opportunity for children to work together and help each other in a daily activity, such as clean up or setting up an activity (CSEFEL, 2016). It is very important to encourage children to help each other in everyday life even though it is a simple task (CSEFEL, 2016).
