I guess there are people in this room who do not know the correct definition of social isolation. Well, social isolation is the lack of social interaction, contact, or communication with other people. Those who socially isolate have an absence of relationships with family and friends or other social networks for instance, Facebook, MySpace, or yahoo messenger. In addition, social isolation can be expressed through physical separation with others, social barriers in their minds or psychological challenges. The effects of isolation on a teenager can be long lasting and create serious problems such as risk of a premature death!
Teenagers who are socially isolated are more sensitive to overall health problems. Specific issues related to social isolation outcomes include, firstly stress and hypertension, sleep disturbances, illness and injury, depression, obesity, child maltreatment, later on development of schizophrenia which is chronic and disabling brain disorder that makes it hard for sufferer to distinguish between fantasy and reality, then it is addiction to drugs and at last but not least, is suicide!
