A problem that persists through every part of the world is a lack of compassion for the homeless. From a young age, my life has been presented with many adversities. Some of these hardships included childhood obesity, being bullied, and homelessness. After my parents divorced when I was young, my dad forced my mother and I to leave our home. As a result, we were homeless. However, we were able to overcome this hardship thanks to the generosity of others. Coming from a low-income background, my mother and I could only afford unhealthy foods. My eating pattern along with lack of exercise lead to me weighing over 280 pounds when I was in the 7th grade. Due to my obesity, I was often bullied by children in my school. In order to hide the pain, I was feeling, I would look towards food as a comfort. One day in 8th grade I had decided that I did not want to live my life this way anymore. As a result, I started eating healthier and exercising regularly. Through this process I was able to lose over 100 pounds. By experiencing obesity, being bullied, and homelessness at a young age, I was able to develop the characteristics of being strong, driven towards success, and caring for others. Through my experiences, I have decided that I want to encourage children who are experiencing similar situations that they can overcome them.…
The United States is not the same as it used to be in my perspective. I think the people are becoming more and more divided everyday. Everyday on the news I hear of a shooting of a black kid and the African American community goes crazy and protest against the police. I think this country is falling apart. It’s just a matter of time. Then there’s the people that come in illegally. They cross the border and commit crimes. I believe it’s the corrupt politicians fault.\s.…
Every once in awhile a person may find himself walking down the street, strutting his stuff. Then he might hear a couple of chords badly put together, poorly strummed, and a voice howling to the wind like a lost puppy in the night. This is probably being done by one of many kids who have left home and decided that it has become too much of a hassle to live in the confines of society. Only to leave home, work, and studies to play their guitar on the side of the street for the one thing they said they despised from the beginning, money. The clear solution is this, hire musicians to teach the howling puppies how to make music correctly.…
Homelessness has declined a great amount since previous years but there are families and individuals which are on the edge of becoming homeless and it is easy to see why. Gas prices go up daily and fluctuate, groceries become more expensive without coupons, houses double in value when they aren’t even worth it, and apartment rent is becoming more expensive as well. An online article called Just Released: The State of Homelessness in America, there was a report which stated that “during a time when there was more economic growth, unemployment decreased in almost all states, and homelessness decreased as well but the number for people at risk of homelessness ‘remained at post-recession levels.’” National Alliance to End Homelessness (April 2015,…
Homelessness without a doubt can be categorized as one of the most dominant social issues in the United States. Particularly, when we consider young adults as a passel with higher possibility of evolving into the state of homelessness due to identifying as a part of LGBT community. Family rejection on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity is the most prevalent factor contributing to the homelessness of the LGBT youth. The research of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has displayed that each year the figure of homeless youth calculates between 575,000 to 1.6 million . Furthermore, up to 40% of all adolescents who have no permanent domicile is recognized as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender while only approximately…
Homelessness is a growing social injustice in the United States. The degradation that these people face every day is terrifying. It is a crisis that we too often ignore, hoping it will restore itself. That assumption delivers a widespread lack of understanding about the facts that lead to homelessness. Homelessness exists as a problem that we should acknowledge and treat.…
Crisis happens to everyone and depending on the severity; it has the potential to render individuals and families without the resources to overcome adversities, which can result in homelessness at any given time. This paper will examine the meaning of homelessness, multiple perspectives on the issue, what is currently being initiated in the field of social work, and explore ideas on possible solutions.…
In every community, children find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. Such as joining gangs or being homeless. That’s why we as Americans need to step in and help those children have a better sense of stability and care in their lives. By donating your time and money we can make that happen. For every person who donates their service and money, just imagine how many lives we could change and think about the crime rate going down amongst youths.…
Homelessness is a social issue in the United States which does not discriminates against age, ethnicity, professional background or gender. This has been an issue for a long time in our country, and it is still dominant today. In states such as California, New York, Washington, Nevada, for example, homeless people can be noticeable in the streets, parks, cars and alleys. This is due to a lack of affordable housing programs, employment, public assistance, mental illness, domestic violence and addiction (National Homeless Organization, 2016). Although, the U.S. is known as a powerful nation, it has demonstrated weakness to the growing population of homeless people in its states. However, in order to have a better understanding of the homeless…
As a society, we need to find solutions to the ever-growing homeless situation in our country. The homeless rate in the United States is increasing; homeless shelters are rapidly filling up causing them to turn people away. By creating lower income housing while at the same time, creating a work program to help the homeless get back on their feet will help to decrease the rate. Although some of the homeless do not want help, they are happy with the lifestyle they live. I heard someone say once that the homeless that do not want any help are what he calls home free instead of homeless. Whether it is drugs or alcohol, these people do not normally go to the homeless shelters.…
