Is it worth risking your health and possibly your life? Pressure to achieve an unrealistic body can cause major health issues. Some women pull drastic measures such as starving themselves, going on harmful and deadly diets, and practice anorexia nervosa. The practice of anorexia is a main attribute to women world-wide causing most women to starve themselves on little food based diets. Nine out ten people diagnosed with anorexia are females within the United States. The online social media website "Instagram", is another main cause for some of these horrible pressuring conditions. There are millions of accounts that claims photography as an empowerment for how many people should look today. There are many celebrities and other well known individuals that all have that "perfect" body. Little do most people know that those celebrities and well known individuals all get some sort of assistance with managing their weight, such as personal trainers, liposuction, and other expensive body enhancers. Many women try to find ways to help them cope with how to get their bodies similar to those individuals and suffer with self-objectification. This promotes shame and anxiety towards their appearance and justifies ways for them to become this certain look or shape. As society we have to think about how others may feel based on our actions, and also based on the customs that we put out into the world. Social media and television serves as a key reason why females have such conflict with their outer appearance. There is not enough positive influences out in the world to help females with their daily fight with set morals of weight. Because there is rarely any help there is not much ways to help women justify these insecurities. One companies that promotes acceptance of appearance is Dove. Appeared on the Dove commercial, there are numerous models ranging from a size zero to plus sizes that all show off and cherish their body figure. Unlike Victoria's Secret, Dove has different size models that teaches viewers to love themselves and their body. This commercial also gives a positive influence that teaches women to love their inner and outer beauty, and not compare themselves to one certain set of morals. It teaches women, "you are easy on the eyes, but hard on the heart."
It is evident that social media and television set morals that all females should be a certain size and think this is a main cause for criticism of weight. Will this problem still affect they way women see themselves in the future? Will this cause more depression and other criticism about self beauty?
