Today, Hispanic women are characterized as independent, hard working, intelligent, self loved and caring mothers.
Society has changed on how we view Hispanic women because they have the same opportunities as men. Sociological imagination is the concept on how we understand the relationship between a situation we may be facing and our social level. Social media has been a factor on how we view Hispanic women today. For example, my cousin is a Hispanic female that graduated from a trading school as a medical assistant. She has two kids and works to provide for her family. On my Facebook account she always posts motivational quotes to inspire other Latinas that women have the power to conquer the world because we have the same opportunities as men to become successful and not only be a traditional house wife. There are a high percentage of Hispanic women graduating from college and becoming more independent from men because women no longer wanted to known as only house
wives. Neighborhoods also has a huge impact on how Hispanic women are viewed in our society. Most of the decisions Hispanic women make in their daily lives are influenced by their community. Neighborhoods matter because women actions are influenced by how they interaction with their neighborhoods. Cultural heterogeneity is a normative ambivalence where there are many values and an individual does not know what to do. The mix of cultural backgrounds and the media can affect Hispanic women decision making and sexuality behavior. For example, on my Snapchat there has been posts which argue that Hispanic women are more likely to get pregnant during their teenage years. During my teenage years, most of my Hispanic female friends were already expecting to have a baby. My friends came from middle class families where the neighborhoods they lived in was usually Hispanic population. In Hispanic neighborhoods it is seen acceptable for female teenager to be pregnant which encourages this action throughout the community.
