It is no secret that technology has had an immense impact on modern society with regard to connectivity. In just the last decade social networking sites have become the norm in everyday activities. Nearly everyone is already on a social networking site, Facebook alone has one billion users, about 1/7 of the world's total population. Even without social networking, people are still interconnected through texting and video chat. If someone goes abroad for a business trip, they will have never really left loved ones behind because they can speak face-to-face with them on a mobile device.…
With the huge explosion of these networking sites Christine points out that it is interesting to see how the first generation facebook users are becoming older and more youth are becoming connected. Its growing effect is taking more of a stance in society and could essentially become just as relevant part of anyone’s routine. The prevalence of sites like Facebook have even developed social norms that are even discussed in regular daily interaction, things like; friending, commenting of others walls, posting relationship statuses all focuses back to the individual and their intentions.…

Neal Gabler’s article “The Social Networks” says “Facebook, in fact, only underscores how much traditional friendship-friendship in which you meet, talk and share – has become an anachronism and how much being “friended” is an ironic term” (par7). Sadly, it is true that people sometimes prefer to have more contact with friends through a social network, calls or texting than to be seen in person. The way people used to have coffee with friends on weekends, meet to chat about an important event that happened or just hang out with an old friend seem to have been lost along with the importance of real friendship. Now, people have more friends on Facebook that they used to have when social networks were not widespread, and probably they do not know 80% of their Facebook friends.…
As the Hilary Stout wrote, in the article “Antisocial Networking?” I spend a lot of time on social networks, also. I am a young student with laptop, cellphone, Internet, Facebook beside me like others in college. Sometimes, I also think that whether social networks is good for us. I have no idea because I am forced to use it to connect with my friends every single day. Now I have a chance to read this article and think about it carefully. Social networks impacts me so much. If the world hadn’t created social networks, I would not have kept in touch with all of my friends in Viet Nam. It is not only bring me the convenience, the cheapest price in communication, but also an opportunity to change my life.…

Mobile and wireless devices have significantly contributed to the rise in social activity. One word, Facebook, have dominated the social world that now it even becomes a verb, i.e. “will you stop Facebooking at work?” Other sites have also played in role in the rise of the social media activity. These include, Twitter, Linked, Google+, Classmate.com, and Instagram, just name a few in the online and virtual communities, and all of these can be accessed wirelessly and mobile.…
The connections that myspace, facebook, and twitter, have made between us to the rest of the world, have made a big impact on socialization. Because we now have the ability to contact friends, family members, and other relatives via these sites, we no longer have the worry of ridiculously high phone bills. We can connect the family members in Australia, while chatting with others in Spain. It has opened up a whole new experience to those who have relatives all over the world.…
If I am on a work assignment that requires me to keep abreast of current events, one of my favorite tools to use is twitter. I find it to be a quick news feed and I usually learn about news first from there before learning it from the mainstream media such as television or radio. On a professional level, I have found Linkedin to be highly valuable. It has given me the ability to connect with prospective clients or sponsors that otherwise may have never been possible. And of course facebook has been the staple for me as for many in helping us remain engaged and to keep abreast of graduations, weddings, births or other special events regarding our family and friends.…

Jenna Wortham is the author of the article named ‘Employers Use Social Networks to Check Applicants’. She is a technology reporter for The New York Times and this article was published on August 2009 at New York City. In this article she talks about how employers use social network like Facebook to check out references of the people that they might hire. She says that ‘Facebook is the most popular online destination for employers followed by LinkedIn’ (Wortham, 97). The main point that she tells is that sometimes in a Facebook profile people can see pictures of others and that is a risky situation because according to the author’s report ’44 percent of employers pinpointed references to drinking and drug use as red flags’ (Wortham, 97). It is very obvious how people can react with your profile pictures and the comments in your wall, people start to create stereotypes of you and they haven’t met you yet.…
Introduction: According to the Nielsen Company survey back in August 2009 social networking and blogging sites accounted for 17% (about one in every six minutes) of all time spent on the internet. That statistic is three years old, as of today that percentage has increased rapidly due to the almost one billion members on Facebook alone, while Twitter is growing at an increasing rate.…
