5. Overview. Social networking has significantly transformed communication practices, opening new spaces and processes of socialization and impacting upon traditional social structures. This new environment poses certain challenges and has some inherent risks, especially for the most frequent users of social networking- young people. If used responsibly, social networking sites do not pose a danger or threat to anyone. Facebook have numerous benefits for their use in term of interacting and talking with other people, but also provide comprehensive privacy and safety features. For example Facebook does not allow people to view others profiles unless they are friends, which require both people to confirm their relationship. It is even possible to limit the parts of a personal profile which one visible, which it is visible to, or make the profile completely invisible to everyone.
