Social Work In Health And Social Care Essay
The field of Social work is broad in terms of service delivery. Social workers can work in several institutions like Hospitals, Schools, Communities, Day care centers, with families, in government established re-habilitation centers etc. My focus in this write-up is to highlight the theoretical perspectives of social work practice in the hospital. A social worker who specializes in this aspect of social work can work in other health care settings.
In the hospitals, social workers can work in several departments. They includes
• Maternity social workers whose services are mainly for pregnancy women.
• Hospice care social workers who focus on patients who have limited time to live.
• Gerontological social workers can also work in the hospital where they take care of old people who are sick.

WHY DO WE NEED SOCIAL WORKER IN HOSPITALS?
In the hospitals, patients have several problems, ranging from physical, mental, emotional and psychological problems. These patients need a lot of care, treatment to tackle their problems. To enhance all-round treatment, social workers are needed to facilitate treatment and promote social-well being. In the hospitals or health care settings, social workers play a significant role to every stakeholder in the hospital. They render services to the patients, their families, the doctors, the nurses, and the hospital attendance.
• Help the family to understand the health situation of the patients especially those with terminal illness.
• They support the patients, their family and care persons, emotionally and practically through change and loss over time
• Social workers can Counsel the family members of patient with terminal illness.
• Social workers can challenge unjust discrimination of patients both in the hospital environment and in the society.
• To promote the patient’s human
