Society in Tomorrow When the War Began
Authors often use novels and written text to voice their ideas and opinions on society. John Marsden has used his novel Tomorrow When the War Began to demonstrate the order of society and how different parts of society need to blend together to avoid it becoming chaotic. Using his ideas on friendship, human nature and challenging stereotypes, he portrays his idea on how these elements need to fit together to create a well-balanced society.
Without friendship and the bond between people, and sometimes countries, society would crumble and fall much like it started to in Tomorrow When the War Began. The lack of ‘friendship’ between Australia and the country that attacked them led to the demise and the destruction of a town. Because there wasn’t a friendly relation between the two countries the attacking country didn’t think about the consequences when it came to attacking Australia and as a result of that the social structure and order in Warrawee started to collapse. On the other hand a strong bond of friendship can build up society and keep it strong. A smaller scale example of this is the friendship of the teenagers. Because they have such a strong bond and have been together through so much they manage to stay together. Ellie talks about their “need to stick together” and because they are the only ones who are free they create their own ‘mini-society’ during their time on the run. Their friendship keeps them close and stops their ‘society’ from becoming chaotic and unorganized.
Society is largely based on human nature and relies on the interaction of humans to keep it going strong. If people interact in a civilized manner and treat each other with basic decency then society will thrive and prosper. The teenagers manage to grasp this concept and through the whole ordeal, apart from a few times that they got into small arguments, they manage to treat each other with the upmost respect and kindness. It’s because of this that they small society they created

-Peer relationships throughout this movie seem to be the most important aspect of these teenagers lives. They are all trying to impress each other and one up each other. The teens have a lot of high risk behavior that has put them in many dangerous situations. For example, when the trend traveled to East Los Angeles in the early morning to buy marijuana from a hispanic gangster, Hector, that they did not even know. By the end of the drug deal Toby was on his knees, peeing pants, with Hector having a gun pointed to his head threatening to kill him. Allison ended up bailing Toby out of this extremely dangerous situation. This scene was a prime example of the significance of teenagers moral development, high risk behaviors,…

During the novel Homer changes into a leader who everyone trusted to make the shots. This novel displayed that war doesn't usually change people for the better as Ellie and co were changed in a negative way. Finally this novel taught me that war can change people in many different…

Kurt Vonnegut 's Slaughterhouse-Five and Joseph Heller 's Catch-22 use similar motifs to convey their common anti-war message. Although it is truly difficult for any author to communicate the true nature of war in a work of literature, both novels are triumphant in their attempts to convey the devastating experience. The authors ' analogous writing styles, themes, and motifs run parallel to one another. Both Slaughterhouse-Five and Catch-22 incorporate irony, exemplify the idiocy and folly of military institutions, and convey a similar theme throughout their story lines.…

Often times in literature we find common themes, meaning the same idea can be conveyed by another writer. In Anthem by Ayn Rand and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury common themes of individuality, leadership, and broken societies that need to be rebuilt arise. As we see through reading Fahrenheit 451 and Anthem one must break through the norm of society in order to achieve true individuality, so they can become a leader, in order to rebuild a society which is otherwise broken.…

e war beA character whom I found interesting In “Tomorrow When the War Began” by John Marsden is Ellie Linton, the narrator, the ‘voice’ and the protagonist of the novel. The novel, Ellie has been through many morals of life, which changes the way she thinks and acts, making her become very philosophical. The way she reacts to her feelings towards Homer and Lee also appealed to me. The themes of survival, loyalty and courage are shown in the actions of Ellie, which contributes to making Ellie Linton an interesting character.…

Life of a teenager comes with a lot of obstacles. While society throws many obstacles to the youth of today, the biggest 'monsters' are the ones we as a person create ourselves. The anger that is projected from a person, greed, the pride, the jealousy, or even the constant need to be number one. Today's society struggles with the thought of being left behind - exiled if you will, it's even worse for the youth of society, fore they are the ones who are creating the future. Like the monsters in Beowulf we as society struggle with common issues, like the ones I mentioned earlier.…

As much as humans like to control their own lives, there are many aspects that are outside of our control. For example, we do not choose the families into which we are born or the places where we grow up. The same is sometimes true of friendships. Some friends we choose because we identify them as people who are similar to us and because they offer us something we want. Occasionally, however, we make unexpected friends. For example, a young person bumps into someone at the library who is crying because she has lost an important paper she was writing for school. As a result, the two become friends and learn that helping people through tough times is at the core of strong relationships.…

While the topic of the Anthem society is mentioned allow me to explain. The society in Anthem is attempting to conform everyone to a single, boring type of person. This is due to an apocalyptic event from the past. Anthem’s society tries to educate everyone on the same level. This keeps most people from breaking away from the normal. People are not allowed to be alone, for this promotes individual thought. Teenagers believe that society is trying to stop their individual thoughts. The society attempts to grow people to a standard. Teenagers believe this is what is happening to them. This is why teenagers identify with the conformist society, and those who do not conform will be punished.…

It was 1920 and the war had left France devastated. After the war, our industries were destroyed, our economy collapsed, and our families ripped apart.
