experiences, but there are other generations that could easily be referred to as the greatest generation because there is a lot of change in society, music, war, and the people that were born during these times define them as the greatest generation as they directly impact our lives today. I believe that the sixties was the greatest generation as it was a time of musical and drug related influence that affected music, people, and even war.
I believe the title of “the greatest generation” belongs to the 60’s-70’s.
This was a time of change in music and even lifestyle. The rise of rock and roll developed through this time. Who would not want to live during this era. As the late fifties gave way to the early sixties, the famous rock stars such as The Everlys, Elvis, Roy Orbison, were still making historical hits, but the older music stars were losing popularity as they struggled to find musical material that would connect with this new and energetic generation of kids. Rock music became controlled by new young groups, taking their power from a combination of the performer's charisma along with the songwriting talents of the production team, who worked behind the scenes( "A BRIEF HISTORY OF POP AND ROCK MUSIC IN THE 1960'S."). The music we have today can be reflected off the music during this time. The music during WWII was old and boring, but the sixties gave rise to rock and roll which became very popular for a few decades. You cannot even deny that The Beatles are a bad band, do you wish you grew up with
them?
WWII was not the only war we have fought, during the sixties and early seventies, the United States entered the Vietnam war. This war was also bloody and destructive. We experienced prisoners of war and new strategic methods of war. Just because a specific generation fought in a war, does not mean any other generation has fought in a war. Plus, I am sure people during the Vietnam war took on brave actions and roles just like the generation in World War II. Even though the casualty count is greater in World War II, does not mean it gets a good rep for the greatest generation( Wars Comparison). Most of that generation probably died in the war. 60 million deaths during WW2 and only 1.5 million during vietnam(World War II Death Toll of All Nations). Why would more death and destruction make it such a great generation.
The people who grew up in the sixties is significant because they directly impact our lives. I am talking about Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. These two famous people were born in the late fifties and grew up in the sixties. The social ways of the sixties impacted their lives to become billionaires and create large companies such as Apple and Microsoft that run our lives. I do not recall anyone who was born or alive during WWII who made such a tremendous impact on our lives. These two technological rivals battle their way through the sixties and seventies to come out on top. The sixties was a time filled with drugs, great music, important people, and a war we cannot forget. Because of these simple factors, it easily wins the title of the greatest generation opposed to the World War II generation. The sixties were a simpler and much more relaxed time and people were directly affected by it because I have come to call it the greatest generation.
