Today I surveyed three people on their definition of family. These are the three responses: “Family are the few that I care so much for that I would literally die for and are the ones I live for. I define family as the people who are by my side no matter what.”,
“Family doesn’t always have to be the ones bound by blood. Families are the ones that are there for emotional support and available when you need them the most.”, “Family is a group of people that see each other as being a whole, which means they don’t see differences within them they only see similarities. I wouldn’t say the family has to be blood-related because people can see individuals as a mother, sister, or brother even if aren’t blood-related.” After reviewing the responses I observed that all three of them said that family can be considered non-blood related. They consider the people that they have a strong emotional connection with as a family. One of the three people that I surveyed said that family means so much to him that he would die for the person that he cares for. These definitions are similar to my family definition of family. A special bond brings people together.
Everyone has their own opinion on how they define family. Family involves the people who have an influence on us as individuals through our norms, values, morals and ethics. I think that throughout the years we have learned to see other people as family even if they aren’t blood-related. It all depends on the person on how and who they consider family. At the end family are the ones that you cherish trust, and, love no matter who they are.
