Solomon Northup’s Twelve Years a Slave is a narrative story on the difficult and grueling life that he experienced during the slavery era. This story describes his life from birth, and how he was being born free, and how he made it through being a slave and how he gained back his freedom. Secondly, another torture that took place in the movie happened when Northup was sold to
Edwin Epps. On the plantation, Northup finds it very hard to adjust to the lifestyle of a slave. He was often whipped when he doesn’t reach the goal set by master whenever the slaved are asked to pick cotton. Also Patsey was abused by Epps, he often spoke violet words to her and later rape her in the film.
Epps’s wife even made the situation worse by asking her husband to beat Patsy. At some point in the book Epps being insecure thought Patsy was sleeping with another man. His insecurities led to a series of horrifying violent and torture in the film. Epps ordered Northup to whip Patsy. He was reluctant to obey his master. He eventually listened to him and whipped Patsy in a light way. He got mad whipped her by himself thereby causing cuts on her back.
The 12 years of slave main focus in the book is to show the horror story of slavery. The scenes are graphic, emotional and touching which is represented in the movie. Another scene in the movie that got my attention was when Epps was preaching gospel to his followers and lying about the bible just
