DEFINE
Somatoform Pain disorder is when a person has several complaints of pain for which they have sought medical evaluation which in turn the healthcare cannot find any cause or reason behind the pain. The pain is so severe that it interferes with a person’s everyday life. This pain is thought to be the cause of psychological problems because there is no physical cause shown. People with somatoform pain disorder are not malingering (faking) their symptoms, they are very real to them.
