Someone Like You Comparison

In popular music, a cover version is a recording or performance of a song that has already been previously recorded or made popular by another artist or band (Shuker, 2012, p. 104). Many artists do cover versions for different reasons. Some artist covers a song to make the song popular for newer generations. Many artists like to do cover versions because they feel the song can be much more than the original. However, over the years many covers have also become more popular in the music industry then the original version that was recorded already. In this paper, I am going to be analyzing and comparing the original version of “Someone like you” by Adele and a cover version of the same song that Dan Wilson recorded. As well stating how all cover versions like Dan Wilson’s cover of “Someone like you” or others can be authentic and original. Therefore, many artists like Wilson who have covered songs are also authentic and original despite what the public may think/say about their covers.
“Someone Like You” won a Grammy in 2012 for Best Pop Solo Performance (Busacca & Winter, 2012). After listening to the original recorded version of the song I noted that Adele used a grand piano throughout the entire piece. However, Adele originally wrote the song using a guitar; before Dan Wilson suggested that she record it with just a piano (Stewart, 2010). In addition, I noticed that the tempo of the song is slow this technique evokes a sense of sadness within the listener. The genre of the song is soul/pop; many of Adele’s songs are within these
