Something The Lord Made Character Analysis

In the movie, Something the Lord Made the two main characters is Dr.Alfred Blalock (Dr.Blalock) and Vivien Thomas. The first thing that you notice when you see Dr.Blalock is that he works on medical research, he seems like he is a hard worker but he doesn't run into any problems with money or with other people, or in other words, he seems persuasive. When you are first introduced to Vivien you notice that he is a carpenter who has wanted to be a doctor his whole life. He just moved his family out to a place that is not familiar with them and he is barely making rent with the paycheck he receives, doing work for the landlord so he has extra time to get rent in. Throughout the movie, Dr. Blalock and Vivien have to save the problem of Blue Babies. Blue Babies are babies that don’t get enough oxygen in their blood due to complications in their heart, causing their skin to turn blue. Dr. Blalock and Vivien looked at a collection of baby hearts so they could compare the healthy hearts to the Blue Babies hearts so they could see what was different. They also use dogs as a way to practice and experiment with. They rearrange the valves in the dogs/puppies heart so they have a heart like a Blue Babies heart. Once they accomplished
Blalock and Vivien tried creating a blue heart on dogs and puppies so that they can figure out how to get oxygen throughout the body in the blood through the heart. Dr. Blalock and Vivien established that the blood was clotting and not flowing properly. After testing different ways, they figured out that they can rearrange the heart valves so the blood can Bypass through. Also known as changing the course of the blood. Dr. Blalock and Vivien after finding a successful way to pass oxygen they stitch it all up. The puppy they did the experiment on grew a great amount with no complications but then realized after a bloody mess that the stitches didn't grow with heart.
