Families Change: Coonts “Son? What son?” In todays decade there is surprisingly a substantial amount of individuals having children without even realizing it. Although optimism and rationalism are essential idealisms in todays’ world, families were indeed much more united in the past, rather than how they are today. In the 50’s for instance, some say families tended to spend more time together. Today majority of the time both parents are at work. This means that adolescents have more free time than they should. When children are left at home alone, or at school, they invite friends. A group of people usually means different ideas, and when boredom arrives, drugs get involved. Drugs have become widely spread acceptable in the younger community. There has not been an easier time to obtain remedies than today. This decade is actually the highest percentage of middle school drug abuse in the history of mankind. According to Drug Free Institution Incorporation there has never been such a high risk of drug abuse in middle schools as there is today. Main drugs on school campuses today are roughly, marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, and the newest drug being mollies. Some drugs might be more harmful than others, but all fall under the same category. When children are left at home without any adult supervision they are more prone to drug abuse. Every drug has its unique effect on certain individuals, but they all tend to cause some sort of disruption on the long run. The most dubious and controversial is probably marijuana, also knows as weed, mota, doobie, Mary Jane, or even skunk. Some say Mary Jane can cure illnesses and diseases. When this drug is used inappropriately it can cause non-stop laughter, slow reactions, hunger, increase in hormones, etcetera. When your child is not behaving the same as he used to, and is a completely different person it is hard to relate to them. Or even simply the fact that, that individuals’ ultimate goal is to obtain more marijuana rather than being concerned about school or family
