Adversity can bring out the positive and negative sides in a person. In “The Proof of Worth,” Edgar Albert Guest demonstrates how challenges in life can help someone understand what he or she is capable of during a hardship. Similarly, “The Importance of Adversity in Growth and Development” written by Patrick Kohan exemplifies how children will never learn how to conquer an obstacle if they are always given assistance. Furthermore, Laura Hillenbrand’s novel, Unbroken, indicates that experiencing problems can affect the way a person’s body reacts and thinks about a difficult moment. Ultimately, the authors highlight that obstacles can be a complex or helpful task, as well as benefit people in the future when they need to know their true talents.…
The individual comprehends its strengths and weaknesses through which adversity circumstances bring out. Like the saying,"what doesn't kill you makes you stronger", is particularly used through those of developing character and individual as well. Qualities are also shown and brought out through the hardships that might have not been displayed during healthy situations.…

Throughout life there will be hard times to test man. Sometimes man goes through troubles that will test them. In Black Boy, Richard Wright suggests that in one’s life there will be struggles that need to be dealt with to achieve their dreams.…
I learn in this essay that most people are luckier then they think and should not be selfish about it. The very worst times in your life could be even worse in someone else’s life. The rougher times in life are there to make you stronger, not to punish you.…
Likewise, when people try challenges on their own it can “bring out [the] worst or [the] best” experiences. Furthermore, when going through an obstacle it can explain how positive or negative a situation can be, such as when athletes train and injure themselves they get to know their true talents and limits. People will not understand how well they can do during a real obstacle or challenge if no barriers exist. On the other hand, others claim even when talents are known they will not help people during a difficult moment, because Louie, Mac, and Phil still “cling to one another” on the raft in the excerpt, Unbroken. Louie goes though many challenges after the plane crashes and finds his abilities, but in some conditions people will always be afraid about their surroundings and rely on a friend. The society will learn how to conquer an obstacle on their own if no one assists them even when in…
“Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.” What the Roman poet Horace was saying was that when there is an obstacle in our way, our true colors will radiate. I could not agree more. When we as human beings feel passionate about achieving a goal, we may learn something new of ourselves, maybe a new trait that we did not know we possessed, when we reach new heights we did not know we could push ourselves towards. Challenges are similar to tests. Challenges are faced every day, but how we respond to them determines how strong we really are. Prime examples are superheroes and students that move dramatically.…
This quotation shows pain is a very good thing which pain makes people grow up. Just like people learn from their mistakes, pain is also a way to teach people some lessons. No pain no gain, because of the pain we learn and we know our life is difficult. We know our path of life is full of ups and downs. During this path we become more mature.…

Kanye West’s 2007 hit song, “Stronger” uses Friedrich Nietzsche’s philosophy, “That which does not kill us makes us stronger”. In his novel, The Happiness Hypothesis, Jonathan Haidt states his hypothesis that people must endure all the hardships of life in order to grow in all aspects. I agree with both Nietzsche and Haidt that through perseverance of all difficulties that occur in life, we can develop a stronger physical, social, mental, and emotional state. I find Haidt’s suggestion interesting because many hardships I have endured and am continuing to endure, prove his suggestion valid.…

Also, in the second verse of this song Drake reminisces on the loss of his father. After the divorce, Drake’s father moved to the states leaving him to be raised by his mother. He reflects on how charges his father had, and the lack of child support kept him from coming back to Drake, however Drake’s Uncle, his mother’s brother, was like a father figure to him. Drake remembers how his uncle told him he could be anything he wanted to be in life, and that he would be success. Drake overcame the loss of his father, by having his uncle there as a fatherly figure to continue to guide him, mentally and finically whenever he could. When Drake became successful he gave his Uncle back every dollar he loaned to him plus more because “He deserved it.” Throughout this song, Drake speaks on his tough experiences within his family life that have ultimately brought him to become the person he is today. With him from his mother, grandmother, and uncle, Drake overcame the loss of different aspects within his life by gaining new means to the missing…
Adversity helps to build strong people and individuals and it gives them strength after they overcome their obstacles. Obstacles that are difficult to get through may provide new opportunities in a person’s life, and even though it can be argued that adversity has more negative effects that positive, adversity also unites people. Adversity brings people together with a common goal to face hardships that will create stronger bonds between people who may come from many different walks of…
“There are people out there who have a much harder life than I do, and all I can say to them is that they are much stronger than I. To those of you with abusive parents, or school bullies, to the people out there with money problems or fear of the future, to the women with cheating husbands and the men with whoring wives, to the children who think that their lives aren’t worth living, I say to you; keep moving forward. For my sake, and the sake of those who fell to their own hands before me, for the sake of the people who thought life was too scary… keep living!…
The bridge is the foundation of the entire song. It has a way of notifying the listener of the adventure they are about to embark on and that this song is far from the conventional hip-hop and rap music that is often blasted on the local radio airwaves. The listener is teleported back to Kendrick’s childhood to the playground, particularly in the sandbox. The sandbox is a representation of creative freedom; an individual can create anything he or she desires. Although it can provide freedom, the sandbox is also the dirtiest place on the playground; it can come with all types of germs and other undesirable objects. Kendrick Lamar mentions his father “…holding the handgun, [while] she was giving birth…” where “she” is being referred to as his mother, this line is an idiom for taking life and giving life. Some teens are forced into parenthood and cannot handle the responsibilities. Fathers leave and mothers neglect, nevertheless a child will find security and guidance wherever it seems to appear. In the next couple of lines, Kendrick states: “I-I wonder if you ever knew you were a role model to me at first”, most young black men do not have a positive male figure in their lives, so they are forced to look for the next thing. Whether it is their mother or the local dope boy, it will be found and it cannot be said whether it is positive or negative. As an adult, Kendrick is faced with the reality that not everyone may have his personal wellbeing in favor and all he sees “…is Wile E. Coyotes in the room…” He had to be the Roadrunner; be smart and cunning when faced with…
