“My very first midterm paper, for American history class, came back with a C” (168). Sonia had no clue as to why she would get such a low grade on a written assignment so she went on a search to find out why. Talking Peter Winn’s history class, she had found out that that her English needed some work and would continue dragging her down if she didn’t work on it. “My English was riddled with Spanish constructions and usage.” (170).
