Consistency: The land of Ingary where the main character lives has its own regulation and mechanism; in which the eldest of three destined to be the unsuccessful one. The main character Sophie is the eldest of three. She is now bound to the magical rule of Ingary. The rule keeps making her doomed with her own fate even though she actually has better qualities than her siblings. Escape: The curse turns out to be a way for Sophie to find her own fortune. Rather than feeling depressed over her 90 years old look, she finds the look suit her better. Moreover, it becomes a reason for her to get out from her house in order to find a way to break the curse. In addition, this magical event also becomes a medium for her to escape from all the pressure she felt as an unlucky young girl. The fire demon can even see two layers of spell within Sophie’s body: the one from the land of Ingary’s rule and the one she got from the Witch of the Waste. This indicates that the magic in Sophie’s body still works as it commands it to be. It remains consistent in restricting Sophie to tell anyone about the curse; unless the other party has the ability to sense it. Recovery: Sophie discovers that even though there is party who knows about the curse, they can’t help her to break the curse right away. She rediscovers reality that in order to gain something that she needs, she has to pay for it or negotiate with the party that has that particular thing. In Sophie’s case, she has to help the fire demon break the contract with Howl in order to break the spell on her. Besides, she also recovers how important other existence is.
