In speaking of her experiences Souad is helping to protect the human rights of women in countries where honor killings are taking place. Creating an awareness of the issue of honor killings is a tough task as many girls do not survive let alone to tell their story. A Girl in the River an Oscar nominated documentary stars Saba Qaiser a girl who, much similar to Souad, fell in love against her family’s wishes and was almost killed. “Her odyssey began when she fell in love against her family’s wishes and ran off to marry her boyfriend. Hours after the marriage, her father and uncle sweet-talked her into their car and took her to a spot along a riverbank to murder her for her defiance — an “honor killing.”” (Kristof) In Pakistan much similar to in Burned Alive in the West Bank many of the killers get away without being prosecuted.
