Sound Classroom Observation
1. What did you observe about the developmental level of students?
From the video I observed students being able to define vocabulary associated with sound showing that they had some prior knowledge on the topic. I also observed students who were actively participating in all aspects of the lesson with very few distractions. When students found another students sound vibration funny they only giggles for a few seconds then continued to listen and participate in the sound lesson. From this observation I can conclude that students knew the teachers classroom expectations and rules.

2. What strategy did this teacher use to make student thinking visible?
The teacher used several different strategies to make students thinking visible. He helped students recall their prior knowledge by asking questions and asking open

How has this lesson helped you understand the 4th and/or 5th grade content standards?

This lesson has helped me understand the 4th and 5th grade content standards by showing me how to incorrupt whole group science experiments. I already know the important of students learning and applying science concepts through experiments but sometimes school budgets and materials do not allow this to happen. This whole group sound experiment could easily be done by borrowing the machine that measures sound waves from the Jr high or High school. Learning about sound vibrations and waves did not need to be done just through worksheets.

4. How has your understanding of teaching this subject and/or grade level changed after viewing this video?

From viewing the video lesson on sound I know understand the importance of making sure students take an active role during whole group experiments. I do not want to just be the one completing the experiment in front of my students but will need to incorporate their involvement as the teacher did in the video.

5. What changes or additions would you make to this lesson? What follow-up activities could you do

To begin the lesson, they played a game called “Guess who makes that sound?”. This game included the teacher playing various sounds of different species of frogs without showing the student the video. The students were then supposed to guess the type of animal making the sound, many guessing crickets and rarely guessing frog. The teacher then showed them the video part to connect the call to the frog, which created a discussion about how frogs make sound and if all frog calls sound the same. Throughout the lesson the students use a KLEWS chart (K for know, L for Learn, E for evidence, W for wonderings, and S for Scientific Principle).…

The science lesson was on the water cycle. This was a great lesson to observe. The teacher read from the text book a brief description of this process. The students were not as interested in this aspect of the lesson. The teacher then showed some great video that allowed the students to see the process. The students enjoyed the interaction with great technology and with each other. The teacher did a wonderful job of incorporating other content areas that the students were learning. There was an emphasis on literacy and on comprehending the content (Carin, 2009).…

While Mrs. Corcoran and I discussed about the lesson, we went over last minute details before Maercker Intermediate School’s spring break and the rest of my spring break. Mrs. Corcoran reassured me she will respond to her emails over break to discuss about the co-taught lesson. Mrs. Corcoran approves and enjoys the idea of having students focus on both social skills and math goals throughout this lesson. I learned collaborating with others can be quite nervous racking, but I have full confidence Mrs. Corcoran and I can teach this lesson, and work with another class.…

By considerable measure, the largest known animal on Earth is the blue whale. Mature bluewhales can measure anywhere from 75 feet (23 m) to 100 feet (30.5 m) from head to tail, and can weigh as much as 150 tons (136 metric tons). That's as long as an 8- to 10-story building and as heavy as about 112 adult male giraffes! These days, most adult blue whales are only 75 to 80 feet long; whalers hunted down most of the super giants. Female blue whales generally weigh more than the males. The largest blue whale to date is a female that weighed389,760 pounds (176,792 kg).…
