Space Exploration Persuasive Speech
Hello and good morning ladies and gentlemen, honorable judges, worthy opponents, and our wonderful teacher. First, I would like to say thank you to side opposition for your wonderful speech. As the second speaker for side affirmative, I will begin by refuting and deconstructing some of the arguments put forth by side opposition, and then I will continue with the affirmative case. As side opposition has said that we should help starving and homeless people by ending the funds towards space research, and yes, there are issues that do plague us as a race. There is poverty and injustice in the world. While these issues exist and should certainly not be ignored, the funds put forth to space exploration have a major impact and are no less of a …show more content…

The technology that came from the space race resulted in many things that are used every day, worldwide such as the satellites we use for predicting weather, navigation, worldwide communications such as telephone service, data, television transmission and even the satellite surveillance used to protect countries all over the world. Technology from the Space Race also brought us laptops, the ability to have tele-conferences, which has ultimately lead to the development of Skype and FaceTime allowing people to connect with friends and family all over the world with just the touch of a button. Space Race technology has also been crucial in medical breakthroughs such as Telemedicine, and CAT & MRI Technologies. It even helped Michael DeBakey in the development of the artificial heart pump. Space race technology is found in smaller objects we take for granted every day, such as scratch-resistant lenses, athletic shoes, and cordless power tools¬—even insulation for our…

things in space. It may be possible to even discover other living creatures that yet they are undiscovered. It is great to send people to space because they can experience new things such as the way it looks and feels. Sending people to space is also very risky. I believe it is worth the risk for the people that are brave enough to do it. Good thing about it is that we can discover new rocks, plants, and minerals. Going into space can answer many questions that scientist have no explanation for yet. Another good thing is that if we keep exploring space soon enough we might even be able to travel or visit space not just astronauts.…

Space exploration has always been fascinating, and it gives us hope of finding something new. According to the video “Space Race: 20th Century Timeline and Firsts,” “though the idea of space travel was discussed for hundreds of years, the field of rocketry got its first big boost in the early 20th century.” A century ago, space exploration was just a concept or a dream for mankind, but this idea had been accomplished by the developed of powerful rocket which overcome the force of gravity. In the beginning, on March 16, 1926 an American physicist, Robert A. Goddard, launched the first liquid fuel rocket in history. After World War II, the United States and the Soviet Union created their own missile programs. On October 4th 1957, the Soviets launched the first satellite into space. Later on, a national goal of “Landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to Earth within a decade” was set by President John F. Kennedy in 1961 (Space Race). On July 20, 1969, Astronaut Neil Armstrong was the first man walking onto the moon. The space exploration improved for the century, and now the advances of technology have pushed space travel to go further and discover other planets in solar system. However, in order to explore universe in details, many scientists have endeavored very hard to invent more new high technologies. Therefore, with its high technologies, space exploration has a lot of impacts on us today. For example, with the satellite system put up in the space, the weather forecast today has a high accuracy level, and this accuracy has helped in preventing many calamities. Besides the weather forecast, the satellite system also helps people to transmit the news or media all over the world almost instantly. Moreover, the researching space becomes a high paying jobs for many…

Satellites have benefited our everyday lives. "Communication satellites are responsible for instantaneous television coverage of events all over the globe, for the speed of international banking and finance, for the almost-immediate delivery of vast amounts of information, and for international e-mail and telephone service to all parts of the Earth." ("Neal 186") When a person watches television, the television is sent from the station to a satellite and to a local provider. Without satellites, a person would be able to only watch local stations, but with satellites a person can watch a television program from anywhere in the world, talk to anyone, or even send e-mail.…

Space exploration is a highly debated topic on whether or not it should be funded by the government. Currently, the United States spends $19.3 billion on space exploration out of its $3.95 trillion budget. Many people argue that the money needs to be spent on other issues like health care and help for the impoverished. Space exploration is an important field that the US government needs to focus on and fund because these endeavors can provide a national space defense, push us towards the future of science and technology, and create new economic opportunities for businesses to take advantage of.…

Today, satellites have become so widely used that some of them have become available to civilians around the globe with over 150 countries funding them. With over 2200 operational satellites orbiting the Earth. There are many reasons on why space exploration has become a necessity for us, as the amount of money being invest on space exploration, has increased drastically. From 1950’s the amount of money spend was 89 million which was a large sum of money back then. While we move up in the years the amount of money on space exploration increases, for instance in the year 2010 it was the most amount of money spent on space exploration than any other year. A total of 18,724 million dollars has been spending. The process of space exploration is done by taking money and investing in new technology so they can study deeper into space. Certainly exploring space today has its benefits, not only for survival of human life later on, but can also make life on earth more convenient. Space exploration is worth the cost, but not how the money is being spent. Although space exploration is and could be very beneficial, there is no point in spending trillions of dollars a year on technology which is still relatively basic. Space exploration is worth the cost, but not to the extent of spending trillions of dollars a year, for instance spending money in the right area, creating more benefits. Space exploration has the potential to bring together the people of this world, and it has a potential to form a better nation, whether it is by developing more technologies, or to help humans to progress as a species. Space exploration is a commanding operation that will benefit the nation and a more steady economy.…

In this current time, our focus for spending on science seems to be drifting off farther and farther into space. We are forgetting how many problems we have here on earth, in our cities and homes. Though there are many brilliant and insightful projects which are taking place (with examples like the Space Program and the Square Kilometre Array), there are projects which would have a far greater positive impact to each and every one of our daily lives. These projects are where our spending should be focussed.…

The possibility of future discovery in space, is justification for the space program because it is a way to save the human race from the inevitable downfall of our planet, whether it be the destruction of our planet, running our planet dry of resources, or the extinction of all life on our planet. With the space program, we have the chance of finding another planet that can sustain Earth life on it. It is also a possibility, that with the space program, humans could discover resources (oil, gas, coal, water, diamonds...etc.)on other planets, to help sustain the way we live on Earth. The biggest reason why the possibility of future discovery justifies the space program, is to find out if there are other living species out there, and to uncover the mysteries of space and time.…
