SPANISH II- CLASSROOM PROCEDURES AND EXPECTATIONS

During the first semester we will cover chapters 1 - 3. The first quarter will review concepts and vocabulary that were covered in Spanish I. The midterm exam is given at the end of January. During the second semester we will cover chapters 4 - 6 with key points from chapters 7-10. These topics will be covered on the final exam in June. There will be frequent quizzes throughout the course on reading, writing, listening and speaking Spanish – each class period there is usually a quiz, sometimes two quizzes or a test. There will be a chapter test at the end of each chapter. A cumulative participation grade will be assigned each quarter; the grade will reflect the student's use of Spanish in class and preparedness to learn.
Student Success
Be in your assigned seat when the bell rings.
Bring required materials to class – notebook, pen or pencil.
Take notes in class.
NO GUM unless I give it to you.
After every class spend 15-20 minutes reviewing at home.
Keep current on homework assignments. The best way to stay organized is to get a planner!
Do your own homework! Homework is usually started at school and finished at home. Put effort into your work – if you just slap something down on paper just to have something to turn in, you will not receive credit for the assignment. If homework is being finished in class the day it is due, it will not be accepted. You can turn in one late assignment each quarter for credit.
Study Buddy – Thursdays in my room (2122) from 2 – 3 pm. Please bring a classmate or another student of Spanish here at Woodbridge with whom to quiz/review vocabulary and grammar. I will be here to give you guidance. Please bring your study materials.
I will be available from 6:45-7:15 AM most mornings and 2:00-2:30 most afternoons. (check with me)

Once per quarter, a student may be late turning in an assignment; they may turn it in at the next meeting day for 50% credit. Although most Spanish words of more than one syllable contain a stressed vowel, the accent mark is not always necessary. This is because the majority of words follow the same tendencies (that is to say that they are normal). Thanks to this, it is easy for Spanish speakers to know which syllable to stress. Here are two simple rules that tell you which syllable to stress when the word does NOT carry an acento ortográfico.…

Third, I have gradually discovered a few tips-and-tricks on how to make your life easier in 8th grade. Keeping a piece of paper containing your information for the homework that night helps you to not forget to do it. For weekend homework, try to get it done before 7:00p.m. on Saturday so that you can do fun weekend things and still get your homework done without rushing. Also, what helps a lot is to turn in everything on time. Most teachers dock the points if the assignment is turned in late so its best to keep on track with everything. And by that I mean, is to not procrastinate! Waiting till the last minutes definitely shows the true quality of your work. You want to get an A right?
