The creation of the SPS program in the basic education curriculum opens the door for all young and potential Filipino athletes dreaming to join the national pool of athletes who will be representing the country in the international arena. It is in this program whereby students are given special curriculum wherein the students need to choose only one or two sports discipline to join until she/he will finish her/his secondary education. Part of the regular load of the students, which is usually scheduled at 3 to 5 pm, is her/his daily training in the said fields of sports where she/he chooses to join. The difference of the SPS program with that of the regular PE classes is that the student athletes under the SPS receive much more attention than their counterparts in the regular program. Thus, SPS athletes train in a daily basis following a more intense and properly planned training program from where trainings start of the school year.
