The first strategy is the general deterrence, the purpose of general deterrence is to discourage individual from committing crimes by setting examples of what will be consequence to deal with after committing a crime. However, children are punished less severally than adults. It is important that the threat of punishment to juvenile delinquency allows officers to reach out to such criminals in their schools that will only allow the judge to commit to severe penalties. In Addition an example of general deterrence is a “tow away zone” sign because it is to enforce the traffic laws and violate severe penalties. Thus, this can result from the perception of the public that there are traffic laws that needs to be enforced and that there is a risk of detection and punishment when it come to traffic laws being violated. …show more content…
Specific deterrence refers to the impact of the actual legal punishment on convicted law violators.
Such deterrence emanates from life experiences with any further crime. However, if an individual is in fear to what punishment there is it is a possibility that it will only prevent him/her from committing a similar crime. A juvenile is set up to be punished by the state authorities’ knowing of their ordeal future misbehavior. An example of specific deterrence can be seen as the impact of the actual legal punishment on those who are apprehended. Specific deterrence can result from actual experiences with detection, prosecution, and punishment of
offenders.
Situational crime prevention strategies is the last strategy which is designed to make it difficult for an individual to commit a delinquent act. It is more difficult for an individual to do anything. There are several opportunities that can reduce delinquent acts. Those acts consist of increasing the effort to commit delinquent acts, any involvement of an individual target- hardening techniques by all means it is hard for him or her to break a window on a business or home. Increasing the risks of delinquent activity by installing bright lighting, security cameras, and the increase of security officers on vacant property. Reducing the rewards attached to delinquents acts making car radios removable. And last increasing the shame of committing a delinquent act by putting the name of the offender in the local paper.
In conclusion, I believe that situational crime prevention is the best method for controlling juvenile crime because it’s a prevention method for juveniles just because in most cases it only makes it difficult for him/her to commit a crime and that there are several opportunities to reduce delinquent act.
