SPEECH ANALYSES Elif Şafak is a Turkish novelist and according to her she is a story teller. Indeed, what makes her stories best is she has lived in many different countries and more than this she faced with plenty different cultures and she combines those things within a female perspective. In the speech of "The Politics of Fiction" she mentioned about several different stories about storytelling and gin which is a supernatural creature. However the main idea of the speech was to show everyone what is the main effect of politics and society affect the writers. I believe that speech was quite good in many aspects but it should also be strengthen in many ways as well. At the beginning of the speech give the audience what she is going to talk about but while she was talking the outline could not clear as she said because there were too much little stories and they were a little bit long. That's why the audience went out of the main idea. Although her short stories were too long, they were also combining the supporting ideas and clarified the main idea. She was perfect while using the sign post quite clear and smooth transitions. Conclusion could be much better even if I loved the last poem. Her physical delivery was not perfect, in some parts of the speech she looked exciting and her vocal delivery on the other hand, was almost perfect because as she mentioned about the speech English is her second language and there is gap between brain and tongue she stuttered two or three times but on the whole both physical and vocal deliveries were great. The most missing part of the speech there was not a visual aid, just a photo which involved with some circles. The speech must supported with a visual aids. I guess this situation originated in her work and capabilities because as she said before she is a storyteller and that's why she did not use visual aids. The speech was almost great because of lacking of some parts such as visual aids. Also her stories and some

The Presidential Election of 1986 between the Republican William McKinley and Democrat William Jennings Bryan, is thought to be one of the most impressive and complicated presidential elections in all of American History. One of the major highlights of the election was William Jennings Bryan’s “Cross of Gold” speech that sparked the people’s interest for the Democratic representative. This speech not only had a firm and well defined meaning, but its delivery was also delivered superbly. The speech itself was concerned with many problems, such as growing class divisions that later were the cause of many violent outbursts among the people. Money was the most prominent concern for the people in 1896 because of high employment rates and the fact that they were recovering from a few years of depression. The…

In my Speech 1 class, the class delivered informative speeches based on the topics students chose. Also, the class was assigned to do a peer evaluation and the student I had to evaluate was Emily. The specific purpose statement for Emily’s speech was “To inform my audience about Atrioventricular Canal Defect”, and her method of organization seemed to be topical, which is a good when informing your audience about a health problem. Also, the main points of her speech included: what is atrioventricular canal defect, what are the symptoms, and what are the treatment options. Although Emily’s speech had many strengths and weakness when it came to the content and delivery of her speech, overall she did a great job.…

Santiago de Chile is a speech presented from Salvador Allende to Chilean workers in Chile Coup D’état, 1973. The intended audience of the speech was Chileans who suffered in the coup d’état. Throughout the speech, Allende addressed “workers of my country”, “modest women”, and “professionals” to defend the democracy from tyranny. The purpose of the speech is encouraging Chileans to make a sound judgement in fighting against the totalitarianism army force, while defending capitalism to thrive for peace and justice. This is because throughout the speech, Allende uses phrases like “I have faith in Chile and its destiny”, “I will always be next to you”, and “long live Chile! Long live the people! Long live the workers!” as an encouragement for…

Debra Wuichet is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from University of Tennessee. She is the Director of Social Services at North Mississippi State Hospital and has been working there for sixteen years. Her topic of the presentation was mental illnesses and schizophrenia. I really enjoyed her speech because I had little previous knowledge of mental illness. Even though I have taken a few classes that discussed the illnesses, I can understand better with stories or a way to imagine a situation and Debra provided that. Information that I thought I knew, was stuff I had assumed from watching television shows and movies. Most of that information is inaccurate.…

Overall the delivery of the speech was average. Tyler’s delivery was best. She had enthusiasm and a smile the whole time while she was speaking. Tyler also had good volume and vocal variety. All the group members had appropriate volume and pitch. Some of the members paused unnecessarily which was a little distracting. They all used filler words three or more times. Pronunciation and articulation started off well but towards the end it became…

My fellow student Chris gave a well-organized and coherently structured speech that followed the guidelines imparted to us in our textbooks. The use of vivid connectives and transitional sentences enabled his speech to flow rather smoothly. Overall he was very successful in conveying his message on smartphones to the audience. Like many of my other classmates, the only problems I picked up on were not in content of the oratory but in rapidity and articulacy – two things than can be attributed to presentation-day jitters.…
