but also in their audience. They'll be discussing or presenting on a subject that affects their audience. Thus, they need to be sympathetic, respectful and educated in the matter. They may even need to tell the audience how he or she is credible and, or, similar to them. They need to master the ability of captivation to garner their audiences attention and need to be able to lead their audience into a discussion or topic. The list for what skills and traits a motivational/public speaker continues, but then there's also some specific masteries they must have.
One such mastery is that of rhetoric.
Specifically the use of egos, logos, and pathos. If I was a motivational speaker and I mastered the skill of Speech Communication and Rhetoric (a required course they'd have to take), then all of my speeches would be "perfect" or "well-rounded". This is because not only would I appeal to the audience by my character (ethos), but I'd also sympathize with them (pathos) and guide them into understanding the content that I am presenting on through emotions and overall facts and statistics (logos). Those would all come together to persuade the audience to take action or to agree with me. Then there's interpersonal communication, they need to be able to send and receive feedback to their audience. Then, if I was to master social media skills, I could appeal to them in a visual form as well; rather than just a kinetic one. By mastering social media skills I can present my content in a symbolic and maybe picturesque from that draws their attention. This will also allow my words and presentation to be more embedded into their memory since, according to a study from University of Alabama School of Medicine, 65% of the population are visual learners, 30% are Auditory, and 5% are kinesthetic. Then there's the understanding of body communication and language (also tying in with psychology). Through body language, I can physically guide your audience's attention to you and emphasize words with more than just your voice. This also helps understand their feedback/reaction to your
words.
