“To bring home what men earn in 12 months, women have to work for more than 15 months” (Walsh). This is a statement that is describing the unfair treatment women are receiving in majority of job fields they go into. In other words, women “earn 72 cents for every dollar men will make” (Goodman). Although this may not seem like a lot at first glance, working at this rate for years long will lead women to lose tens of thousands of dollars in the long run unless it is changed. Women will miss out on what should be given to them already, just because of their gender. Unequal pay for equal work must come to a close in America, and we as a nation must come together to abolish this unfair practice. You can do your part by contributing in movements, like the Equal Pay Pledge, or writing to your local state officials. Taking this issue all the way up to congress may seem like it is too far, but it could just start something bigger. Making a change in your local area or even your state can impact the laws everywhere else. A change in Illinois laws could mean that same change in Indiana, then Utah, and so forth that it is recognised at a federal level. This issue will be taken seriously to the lawmakers in congress, especially those female ones receiving less than her male coworkers, though they’re working together. Another way to contribute to the movements are to sign petitions from Change.org about this issue. Change.org is a website full of trending petitions that are created by people hoping for a change in something. This website has been the start of some big petitions nation wide. Some examples could be the petition saying that George Zimmerman should be charged with the murder of Trayvon Martin back in 2012. Over 2 million people signed it and one month later, George Zimmerman was charged with second degree murder. All it could take is one petition to start something
