Speed Dating
Men and women are rotated to meet each other over a series of short "dates", usually lasting from 3 to 8 minutes depending on the organization running the event. At the end of each interval, the organizer rings a bell, clinks a glass, or blows a whistle to signal the participants to move on to the next date. At the end of the event participants submit to the organizers a list of who they would like to provide their contact information to. If there is a match, contact information is forwarded to both parties. Contact information cannot be traded during the initial meeting, in order to reduce pressure to accept or reject a suitor to his or her face.
These events typically require advance registration, often an online prepayment by credit card. However, they may accept a few walk-ins when needed to balance the gender ratio. Some services make use of wait lists when signing up to strive for exactly the same number of men and women, while others have a more "party" atmosphere and only aim for an approximately matching number.
There are many speed dating events now in the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States. Many of these simply specify an age range for ladies and gentlemen; sometimes a slightly older range is specified for men. On the other hand, many organizers offer niche events such as nights for graduates only, gays and lesbians, older men with younger women and vice versa, book lovers, ethnic events, and religious affiliation such as Christian speed

A communication event I recently attended was "rush" for a sorority. It was a series of days where I met with all the different sororities. The whole point of this is to meet many different people to decide which sorority is for you. The event is focused around communicating with people so they can get to know you and you can get to know them. If you send the wrong message about yourself you may not be invited back the next day to see the people that you would like to see again. Also if the person you talk to in the sorority sends the wrong message to you, you may not want to go back and visit that sorority again. You could not be successful with something like this if you cannot communicate properly and if you…

As mentioned before, the process of dating has drastically changed over the past thirty years. One could argue that the respect and value of dating is not exactly what it used to be. In the 1980s, dating would actually involve going on many dates and getting to know a person before committing to an exclusive relationship. In 2013, if a young man is interested in a young woman, he looks at her Facebook profile and follows her Twitter posts. Then after talking for a week or two over text messages, they are in an exclusive relationship. The concept of dating, which can be defined as going out on dates to see if there is a possibility of a relationship, is gone. In present time, once a couple is exclusive they may go to dinner together, see movies, go to a concert, etc., but these activities were not done as a part of the courtship.…

When I had got to the shop I was about 10 minutes late, I had trouble finding parking and the coffee shop. After I got some tea I made my way to the meeting room past the restroom hallway, where a woman greeted me at the door with a form that she said we’ll all be filling out for fun. I said thanks and then found my seat. The room couldn’t fit I’d say no more than 60 people, with chairs on a rack and a whiteboard and projector screen in the front of the room. After grabbing my chair and taking a seat, I saw that the form ask us things like where did you grow up, where have you visited, and where have you lived? It didn’t take long to fill that thing out. As I see people one by one filling the room, people chatter as they fill out the sheets, it was fairly noisy. Once people had stopped coming in the lady at the door joined us in the room to enthusiastically introduce the speaker Catherine Watson. The lady at the door was Sarah, one of the founders of the Meetup.com group and a friend of Catherine’s she explained. Sarah stated some of Catherine’s accomplishments like being a pioneer for travel writing in American newspapers, being the first travel editor at the Minneapolis Star Tribune, how she teaches travel writing in colleges throughout the U.S, and how she’s been around the world three times!…

Enjo-kōsai (援助交際) (shortened form enkō (援交) means "compensated dating" and is a practice which originated in Japan where older men give money and/or luxury gifts to attractive women for their companionship and, possibly, for sexual favors. The female participants range from primarily school-aged girls to housewives. A common misconception is that enjo-kōsai always involves some form of sexual activity. The term enjo-kōsai first appeared in the Asahi Shimbun on September 20, 1994. In the opposite case of women paying men, it is called gyaku-enjo-kōsai (逆援助交際), or "reverse compensated dating".…
