A man with many talents should be forever remembered by people that admired him. Sheldon Jackson Lee is a producer, director, and actor that was born on March 20th,1957 in Atlanta Georgia. He was born and raised by a well off family and began making amateur films once he turned 20 years old. The very first he made was “Last Hustle in Brooklyn” and was done when he was still at Morehouse College. He later graduated from New York University Film School in 1982. Once he made “Joe‘s Bed Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads“ he received an award after it was finished.
Shelton Jackson Lee was eventually called spike by his mom because of his distinct personality. Spike made his first quality film called “She’s Gotta Have It” in the year of 1986. With only two weeks of shooting the movie grossed well over $700,000 in the United Stated with a $160,000 budget. Spike faced a lot of controversy for both his main films and statements but Spike always takes a serious outlook on race relations, political issues and urban crime violence. When “Do the Right Thing” was released in 1989, it gave examples of all the three and was chosen for an Academy Award for most excellent unique screenplay in that same year.
Viewers where very opinionated when it came to films such as “Mo Better Blues“, “Malcolm X“, “She Hates Me“, and also “Summer of Sam“. Spike went on to direct a four hour documentary in 2006 titled “When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts“. The documentary was about life in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Spike eventually did well in the box office in the year of 2006 with the adventure “Inside Man“ Starring Jodie Foster, Denzel Washington, and Clive Owens. Spike thought that doing movies weren’t enough. He started advertising for Michael Jordan in Nike’s Air Jordan Campaign. He also did commercials for Ben & Jerry, Taco Bell, and Converse.
