These interviews are able to occur because of the team’s ability to reference back to the archives and follow the leads for other interviews, which were provided by the subjects of previous interviews. The Spotlight team also pulled some strings and called in some favors from friends, namely a lawyer for churches who defended many of the Priests and Cardinals, in order to try and piece together all of the necessary information and answers for the story. Unfortunately, this was not an easy process for the reporters because they had to face many difficulties when trying to get the interviews. At first, the lawyers did not want to release the names of their clients because they felt it was unnecessary for them to relive such horrific events for a story that might not even be published. Another issue the reporters had with the interviews was during the actual interviews because some of the subjects had a hard time opening up at first, which led to the research and interview process being a long and tedious event. Luckily, many of the subjects found comfort in the story finally being made public and also might have been at ease when the reporters took notes instead of recording the interviews, this provided a sense of
