Sri Lanka
David Cameron, who is The United Kingdom’s current Prime Minister wishes to visit the war torn north of Sri Lanka in order to find out in detail what exactly went on over the course of about a half years’ time, and what has led to the horrific deaths of so many of its civilians. Cameron has requested a meeting with the controversial President of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapaksa, after what the United Nations believes to be extremely heinous deaths of over 40,000 civilians over the course of the last few months during that nation’s civil war. The UN thinks that these people were tortured, kidnapped, and in some cases were brutally murdered through various war crimes. The Prime Minister views these atrocities as things that are in need of discussion. He plans to attend The Commonwealth Summit, which is an important gathering of about 51 nation’s political leaders to discuss politics among many other things. He has requested a personal sit down with the Sri Lankan leader because of what has gone on, presumably under his command. He believes that simply attending the summit without letting his beliefs be heard does no good to anyone. Canada and India have already announced plans to boycott the event because of the nature of the Presidents alleged actions.
The countries leaders refuse to take any responsibility, and deny all allegations. The country is primarily run by one family since 2005. “One of Rajapaksa brothers serving as the economy minister, another holding the defense secretary title and a third serving as speaker in a parliament firmly controlled by Rajapaksa's coalition” They even go as far as saying that the media is simply fabricating these atrocities to paint Sri Lanka into a bad light. They continue to say that the collectively have nothing to hide, and that there are organizations in place to investigate these accusations, and that serve as an outlet for people in need. The Sri Lankan leaders also express the fact that they are a sovereign nation, and

Puerto Rico has been a U.S. territory for 115 years, yet Puerto Ricans remain second-class citizens. If it becomes a state, Puerto Ricans will no longer be exempt from Federal income tax and even more people will be forced on to the public’s benefits paid by the government. There are some positive truths to look at also, as journalist Catherine Lozada points out: “Puerto Rico costs the U.S. over $22 billion a year. However, as a state it will contribute nearly $2 billion to the U.S. treasury each year.” There will always be that one question which longs to be answered, and that is: What’s keeping Puerto Rico in Political limbo?…

To quote the late Chinese politician Mao Tse-Tung a, “Politics is war without bloodshed while war is politics with bloodshed.” Genocide; is the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group. But why do we participate in a matter that can only have a negative outcome? The ongoing struggle can be related to the religious, political and the European intervention to Sri Lanka. Puerto Rico, an island situated between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, lies just east of the Dominican Republic. With an area of 9,104 square kilometers (3,515 square miles), Puerto Rico is almost 3 times the size of the state of Rhode Island. As an island commonwealth with a coastline of 501 kilometers (311 miles), Puerto Rico shares no borders with other nations. San Juan, the capital, is located on the northeastern shore of the main island; there are also 3 small islands included in the Commonwealth: Vieques and Culebra to the east and Mona to the west. San Juan's location makes it one of the Caribbean Sea's most valuable ports. The Mona Passage, off Puerto Rico's west shore, is also a crucial shipping route to the Panama Canal. Major cities include Guánica, Playa de Ponce, and Guayanilla, all 3 along the southern coast, in east-to-west order. Puerto Rico's most important cities are port cities, vital to the Puerto Rican economy.…
