St. John Bosco's father died when he was only three years old, this, along with a famine, made life very hard for Giovanni's family. Bosco's youth was blessed with a visitation from God when he was only nine years old. In the dream where God spoke to Bosco, Bosco was young men and boys acting savagely to the people in charge of them. God then spoke to Bosco, saying "You will have to win these friends of yours, not with blows , but with gentleness and kindness. So begin to show them now that sin is ugly and virtue is beautiful. This was the inspiration that led Bosco on his life journey, which was a journey of piety and service to the young, who needed his attention so badly.…

The Miraculous Medal By Mary Fabian Windeatt is a story of Saint Catherine Laboure and her struggle to fulfill the Blessed Mother’s request of making and spreading the devotion to her Miraculous Medal. The Blessed Mother appeared to her for the first time in 1830 and told her that she would have much to suffer. She would be ignored and pushed aside but would be given the graces needed to do God’s will. Saint Catherine’s patience, love and obedience to the Blessed Mother was continuously tested, yet she persevered in her struggles. Catherine had a beautiful childlike faith in the Blessed Virgin and after the death of her own mother when she was a child, considered the Blessed Mother to have taken her place. Saint Catherine was a wonderful tutor to the young novices and explained to her fellow sisters that we are encouraged to look upon the Blessed Virgin as our best friend and that we should pray to Her for the graces to love God as She had loved Him.…

St. John Vianney original name is Jean-Baptiste-Marie Vianney. He was born May 8, 1786 in the French town of Dardilly, and was baptized the same day. His parents are Matthieu Vianney and Marie Beluze. They had six children ,of whom John was the fourth. His family were devout Catholics. They helped the poor and gave hospitality to St. Benedict Joseph Labre (he was passing through Dardilly on his pilgrimage to Rome). In 1790, during the French Revolution, it was illegal to attend mass so his family had to travel to farms far away to pray in secret. During this time priest would risk their lives, so John Vianney looked up to them as heroes. His First Holy Communion lessons were carried out in a public home by three priests. He continued this catholic practice until his conformation. He was 20 when his father allowed him to leave the farm to be taught at a "presbytery-school". The school taught arithmetic, history, geography, and Latin. In 1809, he was drafted into Napoleon's armies. Two days after he had to report at Lyons, he became ill and was hospitalized, during which time his draft left without him. Once released from the hospital he was sent to Roanne for another draft. He went into a church to pray, and fell behind the group. He met a young man who volunteered to guide him back to his group, but instead led him deep into the mountains of Le Forez, to the village of Les Noes, were deserters had gathered. An imperial decree proclaimed in March 1810 granted amnesty to all deserters, which enabled Vianney to go back legally to Ecully, where he resumed his studies. He was tonsured in 1811, and in 1812 he went to the minor seminary at Verrières-en-Forez. In autumn of 1813, he was sent to major seminary at Lyons. Considered too slow, he was returned to Abbe Balley. However, Balley persuaded the Vicars General that Vianney's piety was great enough to compensate for his ignorance, and the seminarian…

Margaret of Cortona was born in Loviana in 1247. When she was 7 years old, her mother passed away. Her father remarried. Her stepmother had little care & love for her. Growing up, she became more willful and reckless, & she had a reputation one wouldn’t envy. At the age of 17, she met a young man from Montepulciano, and she eloped with him. They had a child out of wedlock. Nine years after, her lover was murdered & his body was found in the forest. This crime shocked Margaret into a life of prayer and penance. She returned to her parents’ house as a penitent. When her parents refused to accept her & her son, she went to the Franciscan friars in Cortona. But Margaret had difficulty overcoming temptations of the flesh. One Sunday she returned to Loviana with a cord around her neck. At Mass, she asked pardon for her past scandal. She attempted to mutilate her face, but was restrained by Friar Giunta. Margaret earned a living by nursing sick ladies. Later she gave this up to serve the sick poor without recompense, subsisting only on alms. Eventually, she joined the Third Order of Saint Francis and lived in poverty. Her son joined the Franciscans a few years later. Following the example of St. Francis of Assisi, she begged for sustenance and bread. She pursued a life of prayer and penance at Cortona, and there established a hospital for the sick, homeless and impoverished. To secure nurses for the hospital, she instituted a congregation of Tertiary Sisters, known as "le poverelle" (Italian for "the little poor ones"). She also founded a hospital at Cortona and the Confraternity of Our Lady of Mercy. Some in Cortona turned on Margaret, even accusing her of illicit relations with Friar Giunta. All the while, Margaret continued to preach against vice and many, through her, returned to the sacraments. She also showed extraordinary love for the mysteries of the Eucharist and the Passion of Jesus Christ. She then moved to the ruined Church of St.…

My life is not that different with St. John Baptist De LaSalle's life. Like him I was born with a family that is noble and in the upper-class of the society. Since my family is righteous, I have received an excellent development in my life from them. Like De LaSalle who was born with an aristocratic family and had an early training with priesthood life. My inspiration and sources of joy is of course from God and my Family because not for them I may not be studying in this school. I have many ambitions in life not likely same as De LaSalle's ambition but still helping others is my priority. De LaSalle is the eldest son so his family is expecting more from him, unlike me I am in the middle of four brothers and sisters but still my parents is expecting much from me. I am a very approachable person maybe like De LaSalle since he has many friends. Maybe like De LaSalle I am very friendly and approachable. The society where I am now is a lot different compared to the society where De LaSalle lived. The society now is more civilized and educated unlike in De LaSalle's time but still that did not stop him from helping poor children to study.…

For a while now he could live without demands from his fussy children and his immature wife. I knew his routine so well. As he came to the bend in the road past our house he would look back at the ten children lined up in front of the door. He would wave at them, but no one would wave back.
