Acquire or Develop Talent- Since its inception in 1975 Tanglewood has focused on developing its talent rather than acquiring it. At this point it is this analysts opinion that Tanglewood instill this development plan to all its new acquisitions to retain its historical reputation for customized and personalized service from its staff.…
An institution needs to measure input and output to effectively staff the facility. Input can be measured by patient arrivals and appointment requests (request for care). Output can be measured by patients treated, cost per case, quality and access. The physician organization also assists in providing excellent care by recruiting and retaining physicians necessary to provide this care. Physician supply should remain open to leave and come as the community demand raises and lowers. However, it is more effective to be strategic in planning the staffing needs. Too big leaves physicians underworked. Too small leaves physicians overworked. A medical staff plan should…

Healthcare just like any other type of service industry is reliant on possessing satisfied clientele. Scheduling practices help to manage the patient flow by establishing certain guidelines regarding how late a patient can arrive, and still be seen without disrupting the patient flow throughout an…
Apart from staffing plan, there is also the staffing pattern. Kim, Harrington, & Greene (2009), refer to staffing pattern as the proper number of staff designated to each function or responsibility within a group for each shift and per day. Staffing patterns include using part time nursing staff, using staff that is hired temporarily, skill mix of nursing personnel, and tenure experience plus mix of nursing personnel. According to Wallace (2013), to have sufficient equipment, support personnel, and supplies are aspects that must be taken into consideration for any effective model for staffing so as to improve upon the work flow of nurses. Taking into consideration the size of the healthcare establishment, the aiding staff-nurse ratio, and the nursing care hours per patient day, I will utilize the management engineering pattern. This pattern will permit me to assign nurses based on a careful analysis of availability and patients’ needs and the 1:1 ratio for supportive nurses and nurses is quite appropriate for the management engineering model because clients with diverse magnitude of care will easily be provided a distinct or exclusive healthcare services. However, the number of patients in the hospital also influences how the management engineering model functions because an increase in the number of…

Apes are one of the most sophisticated creatures on the face of the Earth. From their advanced means of communication to their ability to craft a variety of useful tools, these attributes not only let them thrive in a prehistoric humanistic way, but also rule the animal kingdom. Despite their rich intellect the general public see apes as nothing more than feeble-minded, rabid beasts, some not even able to distinguish the former from monkeys, who are distinctly different species. Scientists, on the other hand have been conducting extensive research to discover what factors can be attributed to ape’s intricate way of life. This is because of their superior anatomical, neurological, and psychological differences that set them apart from the…
I know I shouldn’t be feeling this. Would it be a sin to do so?…
If you’ve ever had a job opening and an unqualified candidate down the block, you know the feeling. On one hand, there are a few motivating factors to consider: A sense of moral obligation to hire “your own”, a natural allegiance to your friend, neighbor, or community member, social pressure (your mom knows his mom-‘nuff said) and of course, an honest to goodness desire to help your friend.…
that describes how each of these predictors has affected staffing levels in the past. This equation is used to predict future staffing levels. This is an example of ______________:…
Obtaining control of labor staff cost in a medical facility is not as simple as saying the sky is blue. This task takes lots of consideration. There would always be patient volume, once again depending on what type of practice it is, staffing calculations are actions used to calculate coverage all periods of times. Since medical staff members working all day that means shift would change every eight to twelve hours. The method is a basic 40 hour work week. That’s saying if someone is working twelve hour shifts they would work three in half days which would add up to 40 hours a week. Or if its eight hours shift they would work five days a week.…
Successful strategic staffing process lies not in how these steps are defined but how they are developed and implemented that counts.…
As cited by, Henneman et al. (2015) delays in patient care is one of the consequences of inadequate staffing. Although the Emergency Nurses Association supports a nurse to patient ratio that takes into account both patient census and patient acuity the ED’s fluctuation in patient volume makes it challenging for management to adequately adjust staffing levels. By using a computer simulation, Henneman et al. (2015) studied the effect of nurse-patient ratio on ED wait times while using multiple variables such as patient acuity, presence of ancillary staff, and inconsistent department census. The authors concluded that inadequate staffing has a negative effect on length of stay; and that high acuity patients, as well an increased census require higher staffing levels in order to maintain department flow and decrease patient wait times. Using descriptive statistics available in reports of wait times, patient acuity, and department census allows nursing leadership to adjust staff scheduling and maintain patient…

Two major forms of staffing guidelines will be discussed, nurse-to-patient ratio and staffing by acuity. This paper will discuss the history of each staffing form. It will point out the benefits and negative features of both practices, describe how hospitals deal with staffing and discuss the states that have laws requiring certain guidelines be followed.…
