Standardized tests don’t take into consideration certain characteristics of a student that may affect how they perform on the test. For instance, when the author was talking about the No Child Left Behind Act, they say, “ the number of federally mandated standardized tests for K-12 students has more than doubled from six to seventeen. Add in state and locally required tests, and the numbers soar to levels that can cripple learning” (Parents). With all the different tests students take, they never have time to actually learn. Also, it doesn’t give us time to actually develop a love for learning, it constricts it. Similarly, when they pointed out reasons of why testing is bad, they said, “ testing infiltrates instruction” (Parents). Testing takes up time that could be used for teachers to establish creativity and curiosity in students. It’s basically spend an insufficient time one the topic then, take the test whether they know it or not. In addition, when the author explained the effect of tests on students, they said, “ parents report children being agitated, physically ill, showing signs of anxiety” (Deutermann). Students get anxiety from being afraid of getting bad scores because evaluators put excessive consideration on test scores.
