Star Water Lily Story
When the stars come out, in the world of Shu, so do the gems in all plants. However, much like all things, there are exceptions. Such as in the case of the humble water lily. Star a water lily, is the subject of this story.
“Good evening, Lilies! It’s time to wake up!” Shouted the pink flower called Star.
“Hush. Hush. It is not. It is time to rest, like the best of flowers,” Tiger another young lily states.
“But the gems are out and so is the moon. Come on! Come on! If you sleep all night you will be awake all day!”
“Do you forget water lilies do not have their gems out at night. I am not the one who is on the wrong sleep schedule. How do you even eat at night? If it were not for your leaves I would swear you were a weed, another type of flower.”

I understand what you're saying but there is no reason to call her a weed.” It was an elder lily who spoke out. “As for you, Star, be quiet and let the others rest. I advise you rest as well. You will wilt away soon if you do not wake up in the day.”

“Oh. It’s raining. At least it is more interesting than watching plants sleep.”
The small flower worried not and returned to her moping. Another glob of rain floated down and then another. The rain proceeded to pour, which the flowers proceed to ignore until a strong storm rain came in a fury upon the pond. This quickly flooded the home of the flowers. The lilies, who were understandably worried, clustered together to hold fast to the sinking ground. With all the strength she could muster Tiger pushed toward the cluster of flowers.
“Hey, Weed, there is not a chance you are living with us.” Tiger pushes the lily away sending her to the mercy of the flood. “Finally, she’s

As soon as she pulled onto the highway, the lightning flashed across the sky and she knew it would start raining soon. Ruth was unfamiliar with the curvy roads, and slowed down when the rain started forming a lake on the road in front of her, making it difficult for her to see the lines on the highway. Dark clouds hung slightly above the road and the sounds of rain beating against the car bothered her. “Perhaps I shouldn’t have chosen this day to ghost hunting,” she said as the inside windows fogged over, turning on the defroster she calmed down and sang along with the radio.…

So he raced from dogwood to blossoming peach. When they thinned out he headed for the cherry blossoms, then magnolia, chinaberry, pecan, walnut and prickly pear. At last he reached a field of apple trees whose flowers were just becoming tiny knots of fruit. Spring sauntered north, but he had to run like hell to keep it as his traveling companion. From February to July he was on the look out for blossoms. When he lost them, and found himself without so much as a petal to guide him, he paused, climbed a tree on a hillock and scanned the horizon for a flash of pink or white in the leaf world that surrounded him. He did…

“All late readers know this sinking feeling of sinking of falling/ into the liquid feeling of falling asleep then rising again”(13-14). Late readers know how it feels when falling asleep, the pull of sleep, and the want to keep reading pulling you out. The author struggles to stay awake but succumbs to sleep. In the poem “Reading Myself to Sleep” by Billy Collins, figurative language is used to create a better understanding of the poem for the reader, including metaphor, simile, and personification.…

Chapter 1: Lying on her bed, Lily waits for the return of the bees that have begun to live in the walls of her bedroom. The year is 1964; Lily is about to turn fourteen. She lives alone with her father, Terrance Ray, and their black housekeeper and nanny, Rosaleen. Lily can’t bring herself to call her cruel, confused father “Daddy,” so she calls him T. Ray instead. Rosaleen warns her to watch out, because “bees swarm before death.” Lily insists on telling T. Ray about the bees, so she wakes him up, even though she suspects it will only anger him. It does. Lily reminisces about her mother, who died when she was four years old. Lily intimates that she had a significant, albeit accidental, role in her mother’s death. Then Lily recounts the last memory she has of her mother: December 3, 1954—the last day her mother was alive.…

Everything was silent at first, as are most moment’s right before a major storm. People were roaming around, minding their own business and going about their days like nothing was wrong. It was quite clear most were trying to rush to get everything accomplished before the downpour, but no one knew how soon it would happen. Suddenly, as young eyes searched around the area for a treat for being a good boy during the trip, the wind suddenly picked up. Papers and leaves blew about, some flying in front of his face. This caused him to let go of the hand he was holding onto so he could rub at his eyes. He heard a voice, but the wind was too loud for him to hear over.…

The Soliloquy starts off with “How many thousand of my poorest subjects are at this hour asleep! O sleep! O gentle sleep!” This already reveals that he is awake and jealous of all his subjects because they are asleep and can sleep. The syntax in line two expresses his frustration. He repeats “O” twice when referring to sleep or “nature’s soft nurse”. He is suggesting that sleep is something grand and great just by addressing it with the “O”. Even the three exclamation points make sleep seem to be majestic and wonderful. The king sees sleep as a desirable, natural thing but something of which he cannot receive at the moment. In lines three through five, he cannot understand or make sense of why sleep will come to everyone else, except for him.…
