When evaluating the idea of power, military force is one factor to look at in the conflict. Palestine does not have military power, while Israel does have military power and strength (Metaxas). This is an idea of hard power where Israel dominates in military aspects or material areas opposed to Palestine (Goldstein). This contributes to the conflict because Israel has the ability to get the different things that they want or need, while Palestine is left with less resources and is usually defeated in wars (Isseroff). These acts of terrorism carried out by the Hamas are used to cause fear within civilians of Israel to put pressure on the Israeli government to make changes (Metaxas). These acts are a reason of the continuation of this conflict as it creates tension and animosity between both Israel and Palestine, and also distrust between the two. Another idea of hard power is the territory divide between both Israel and Palestine. This is a long term factor than can be changed over time but only gradually as it is something that needs to be negotiated (Goldstein). Israel has the majority of the territory including Jerusalem city where there is a lot of religious ties to the city that a lot of Arabs and Jewish people feel is sacred and important to their specific religions (Abu-Amr). Israeli’s have tried to get rid of the Islamic culture that is a part of Jerusalem to make it geared more towards Judaism, again causing more animosity as this is a monumental city in Palestine (Abu-Amr). Israel has hard power over Palestine and influences their actions in negative ways rather than
