Who/what is in need?
The entire balance of the natural ecosystem of the Florida Everglades is being threatened by pollution and invasive species.
Where are they?
The Florida Everglades stretches from the tip of the Florida peninsula up to Orlando and through Lake Okeechobee. This massive preserve covers about 3 million acres.
When is the need evident?
Water drainage as well as exotic plants and animals are causing an imbalance in the natural ecosystem, displacing many native species and disrupting the national park’s ecosystem balance.
What is the need?
People need to be educated on the importance of preserving the swamp and its natural inhabitants. These people can be reached through community events and building boardwalks that allow people to walk into the swamp, experiencing its natural mystical beauty.
Why does this need occur?
Most people are not made aware of the impact the “human footprint” has on earth’s natural landscapes. For this reason, many people are careless with their water consumption and where they throw their unwanted pets and plants. By enticing people into the swamp with boardwalks like Kirby Storter and Bobcat Boardwalk Trail, their love and awareness will begin to grow and tourist dollars will begin to flow, helping to protect the national park.
What evidence do you have to support your claim?
Additional revenue in the form of tourist dollars will increase as a result of the additional boardwalks, as they will attract more people to the Florida Everglades. The increase in interest of the national park, will further promote the park’s natural history and help spread the mission of preserving the park and all its natural resources.
