From the time he began his career to his untimely death, Michael Jackson will be known as one of the best entertainers of all time. He is most noted for his exhilarating live concerts and performances that left his fans screaming for more. Michael Jackson set the standard for future Super Bowl Halftime Shows when he debuted in 1993 with his performance of ‘Heal the World’ where 3,500 local children participated in his uplifting message of love and humanity. In 1987, Jackson began his “Bad World Tour” listing 123 concerts in 15 countries and as a result became known as the biggest and most successful tour of all time. As Jackson set the standard for future artists to incorporate theatrics and expression in their performances, he always felt the responsibility to give his fans a show that appealed to their five senses. Not only were live performances a staple in the life of Jackson, but he is well known for fundamental changes to the world of music video. He was a music pioneer who never stopped pushing for what he believed in. He fought for equality in race relations, ending global poverty, and the incorporation of dance expression through his videos. The synergy that Jackson’s “Thriller” and “Beat It” videos brought to the music culture was foreshadowed by racial prejudice until record sales reflected people’s excitement about the “video virus.” Thriller came about just as MTV was emerging and was his first big step towards his music video era. “[Jackson] made music videos that were movies and changed the genre of what a music video was. He was able to open that…

Michael’s self-confidence was weak from the start. At 5 years old, Michael joined his family group, known as the Jackson 5 and immediately impressed audiences. Due to his striking range and depth, he became the groups lead vocalist. His father, Joseph Jackson, was passionate about his sons’ success. He was particularly hard on Michael because of the potential he saw in him. His father was known to become violent and short tempered with his kids, forcing them to spend endless hours rehearsing and polishing up their act. Their hard work payed off which lead to the Jackson 5 becoming famous immediately. The group and their father were infatuated with the positive responses except for Michael. He was the most talented of the group but ironically was a quiet person off stage. He never seemed to feel comfortable with media attention and giving interviews. Despite his shyness, when the Jackson 5 split up in 1979, Michael continued a solo career. For the next few years Michael’s career prospered. His first album made Top 10 Hits, he received Grammy Award nominations, earned several Guinness World Records, and he made it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but none of these accomplishments seemed to change the person he was off stage. Along with being shy, Michael was noticeably self conscious about his appearance. At his career peak in 1984, he signed a $5 million commercial deal with Pepsi-Cola, and was badly injured while filming. He suffered burns to his face and scalp but got plastic surgery to disguise the scars. This event triggered his recession;…

Light black's film clarifies how and why that happened, furthermore how a far-fetched coalition of worldwide activists that extended from African patients and specialists to an Indian pharmaceutical businessman, to Bill Clinton started to turn the tide, was this the job of this section of society? Gray conducts enlightening and regularly chilling meetings with individuals few Westerners have known about, including the Ugandan specialist and HIV treatment pioneer Peter Mugyenyi and South African AIDS lobbyist Zackie Achmat, furthermore with more commonplace appearances like Bill Clinton and Nobel-winning economist Joseph Stieglitz. The picture that develops is of a mixture more lethal than HIV disease itself: corporate ravenousness, broad aloofness and prejudice. It was well seen in the late '90s that the HIV drug upset in the West had brought just about no help to Africa. At the same time awfully large portions of the Western media openly mitigated that the AIDS emergency was "over" and tired of awful news, this was a sad part because it’s the media from whom society expect the truth, they should serve as watchdog against…

The death of Michael Jackson has given many fans and critics cause to revisit his work. The controversies that surrounded his life in the last decade made Jackson the subject of many jokes and was threatened to end his career in shame and obscurity. But his untimely death provides an opportunity for us to look back at his musical career, and to celebrate his talents as a singer dancer and songwriter. Like other pop stars, Jackson wrote many songs about love and partying, but a number of his songs, such as Heal the World and We Are the World, showed a keen awareness of global issues such as poverty, hunger, and environmental conservation. This may seem contradictory to the questionable choices Jackson made in his personal life, so this is why Man in the Mirror may be his most personal and revealing work. With Man in the Mirror, Jackson reveals a deep inner-conflict and proposes a challenge to himself and to his listeners that in order to change the world, people must first change themselves.…

The African American Community is facing a major health crisis called HIV/AIDS. This disease has become a pandemic in the African American Community. South Africa alone has 5.7 million people living with HIV and AIDS in 2009, more than any other country. Almost one-in-three women aged 25-29, and over a quarter of men aged 30-34, are living with HIV (Human Sciences Research Council, 2009). Although African Americans make up 12% of the U.S. population, they accounted for half of the new HIV infections reported in 2001. Research shows that many new infections occur among young African Americans. This paper will use information from research to show why this disease has plagued the African American Community, and what is being done to thwart the pandemic.…
