I Am Essay for a Scholarship

Dear UAW – Local 685, My name is Jessica Gates and I have been selected to be a student ambassador for a People to People program. Fifty years ago President Eisenhower’s vision for these Ambassador programs was to give everyday citizens of different countries a chance to meet and learn understanding, friendship, and lasting peace. It is an European Heritage trip. In the summer of 2014, we will travel to England, France, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Austria, and Switzerland. This is going to be a very interesting and educational experience. I am a senior at Kokomo High School. I am in two AP classes and I get A’s and B’s. I have been on the varsity swim team for four years. I swim mostly long distance events. I am in National Honor Society. I also participated in marching band all throughout high school. This trip is a journey in Europe to explore seven countries in 20 days. We get to ride on an alpine roller coaster, trace heroic footsteps along the beaches of Normandy, and make friends with a German family during a home stay, meet with a member of British Parliament and go behind the scenes to explore European cathedrals and mysterious castles. The group will experience these magnificent countries in ways that will inspire imagination, feed curiosity, and give us a new perspective on this amazing part of the world. This trip is very costly for me, around $8,000. So, this letter is to ask for help. I am asking for donations in order to help pay for my trip. In return, I can bring pictures and information to your business. I would be happy to share my experiences with your business! I am really excited for this trip. The group will be performing a service project gaining more knowledge of different cultures and share it with everyone I know.
