In my experience, when I first moved to a new elementary school called “Davidson Elementary” I was the only Asian-American in my class and people in class didn’t think I knew English. People wouldn’t bother to talk to me because people thought I didn’t know how to speak English and that I was born in a foreign country even though I was born in America. When I was a kid, I had trouble with speech because I rarely had any friends and I didn’t talk much so I would stutter a lot, but I clearly knew how to talk proper English even though some people would still think I’m slow. I wasn’t a big geek in my middle to high school years because I would often ask people to help me with my homework most of the time and would let them do the work for me. I also had bad grades in school because I wasn’t really good at studying and doing my tests because I would tend to overthink a lot. Some people would expect most Asians to have a good GPA, but I had an average GPA during high school. When I was a senior at high school people would ask me what colleges accepted me, and when I didn’t say any Ivy League schools, people would often get shocked because they think that Asians would go to those type of schools instead of a regular college.
