Stereotypes In The Classroom
In a small Canadian town there is a class going on. There are actually many classes going on but this is the one that is relevant right now. Anyways, in this classroom there is many pictures of great men in history. Writers, poets, philosophers, inventors etc. All men, and only men. The few that are recognizable to a short girl in the back are Shakespeare, Edger Allan Poe, Gandhi, and whom she believes is Tesla. Naturally, the girl will feel bad not knowing the rest but she already accepted that she can't know anything nor everything. The girl, Marie, notices the lack of female figures a few weeks later but this story is not about that. This story is about the girl’s normal morning.

The teacher talks about homework the class hasn't done, he tries to elicit a response or guilt but all he got was blank apathetic stares. In reality, only 8 kids were staring at him and who knows how many were actually listening. "It's not your fault. It is your nature, you are the products of your environment," the teacher says before he starts talking about the homework story, 'Los Vegas (What)?' What is the environment kids have? How did this environment happen with

Walking to the washroom she cleans herself up and takes a selfie and posts it on Instagram, #nomakeup. 5 likes in under a minute. She walks to her locker and gets a sandwich, sitting in the hall she eats, her best friends is sick so she is alone. She eats in silence. Not even bothering to get out music. After eating she decides to watch wholesome educational content on YouTube. So she watches "2 lesbians play: Goat simulator pay day edition." 9 minutes well spent. She goes to the cafeteria and buys a chocolate milk and a large cookie. She is on a diet after all. Her bleached hair still smells like dye and chemicals but looks great. Nothing like purple hair that says "unemployable". Instead of reading her book for English she re-reads a web-comic which never ends and has no logical

Alessa,(Age 16, dark hair) wakes up in her bed, excited she gets out and opens her door to the hallway, still in pajamas. Canin introduces the character of the narrator by describing his classroom as “a tribute to the lofty ideals of man, which I hoped would inspire my boys, and at the same time to the fleeting nature of human accomplishment, which I hoped would temper their ambition with humility” (pp. 156–157). This description establishes the important role Hundert sees himself playing in the lives of his students. He believes that the examples of history he teaches his students will help them to become future leaders, men with great ambitions who also possess humility. Hundert’s interactions with Senator Bell reinforce Hundert’s idealistic self-perception. When Hundert meets with the senator to discuss Sedgewick’s inappropriate behavior, the senator challenges…

Stereotyping can change a person’s character uncontrollably. “We were Indian children expected to be stupid. Most lived up to those expectations inside the classroom but subverted them on the outside.” Sherman Alexie is saying that the people he grew up around are what created the stereotype. They didn’t try in the classroom. There was a constant battle between Indians and non-Indians to prove what they were made of, but Indians gave up. They decided to let the rumors about them become true. As they continued on, they believed the rumors were true as well. They believed that the classroom was a vulnerable place where they could never excel. All, within a blink of an eye. Without the kids really being able to stop what was really happening, the stereotype sucked them in and never let…

We all have encountered some type of stereotype or prejudices. A stereotype that I had to face was age prejudice by me being so young sometimes people don't set the high expectations for you that other people would at an older age because they expect for you to make mistakes. At times my mindset isn't where most kids are at my age. I skipped pre k and I am supposed to be in the 8th grade. When I tell people my age they be like " OMG you are young to be the grade that you are in" this is a perfect example of what I am stating that people sometimes think that you have to be average and can't go over and beyond your years.…

I have experienced many stereotypes throughout my life. In high school we had a project that involved asking people what they thought of us when they first met the person who was conducting the question. When I had asked my peers I got the most shocking responses. I was stereotype as the dumb girl who looked conceited and wasn’t going to get anywhere in my life. Even though that was high school, today I still get the stereotyped as a dumb and mean girl.…

I believe the biggest challenge college students face today is the fact that a lot of them are not mentally prepared. A lot of students do not realize that college is a whole new ball game. In high school some people do not really have to study to make an A, but in college you really have to work for just getting a B. Some students can go in with the mentality "well I was one of the best at my school, it is not going to be different in college" and that is what is wrong. Students in high school should have a week or two were they are graded as if they were in college just to give them a taste of how much they have to work and how disappointing it may be for…

Stereotypes. Stereotypes play a major and huge role today in society negatively and positively. Stereotypes can form truthful and untruthful results that can mentally, emotionally and physically destroy a person, race or culture which we see today. Stereotype is a fixed over generalized belief about a particular group or class of people (Meclod). I chose to write on the topic stereotype because in society today we as humans stereotype one another all the time and do not realize it. Research have found that stereotype exist of different races, cultures, or ethic groups (Meclod). Today our world is so based off what the next person thinks and what they will say and do if something is not done a certain way and it bothers me. Don’t judge a book by its cover, no one should be judge for…

I should have focused more on my grades this year. By attending many social events, waiting until the last minute to complete work, and refusing to study my grades began to drop. I feel that if I would have put more effort into my school work I would have achieved the grades I am capable of getting. By hanging out with friends and putting off work my grades gradually began to drop. Your senior year is not the year to slack off in; it would have better prepared me for college and set the tone for how I should work if I had just put in the effort necessary to achieve outstanding grades. When in college I cannot make this same mistake; all of my dreams of obtaining a decent job after college could be ruined.…

“Today we have the highest rate of incarceration in the world,” (Stevenson). The prison population in the U.S. has grown extremely fast over the past three decades. With almost “six million people on probation or parole,” it is clear that there is a problem with our prison system (Stevenson). While most of these problems are exclusive to the prison system, one comes directly from society. Racial discrimination.…

As the United States becomes more diverse, colleges are seeing increases in minority students. However, this increase does not mean that the same number of students are leaving their college with a degree. Minorities face many challenges in college, some of which have persisted since elementary school. Although colleges try to diminish these difficulties by having different organizations where students can go to seek help, the students have already formed the mindset that they do not do as well as their white counterparts from micro-aggressions, learned thoughts and behaviors, and comparisons of resources.…

Wrong Notes Ever since I could remember I was always that random kid in the back of the class. The kid that never really had a place in the hierarchy of stereotypical American schooling pyramid. I was the kid who had a few friends from a certain group that I would hang out with and a few others from another group. I would constantly be trying to find friends to be with in elementary school all the way up to high school.…
