Biggie is trying to disprove the stereotype that African American's are idiotic, thieves, and thugs because of one group of men. It is argued that current rap helps economically by promoting clothing brands. Ralph Lauren targeted white preppies, but it did not stop hip-hop artists from wearing their clothes, which sparked Tyson Beckwith's career as their first African American model (Karon). Rap also economically depressed New York City-predominately in the South Bronx area- in the late 1900's (Hip-hop). To today's artists, top brand clothing is more important than teaching kids to stand up for what they believe in. Florida International University conducted an experiment based on teens behaviors based on their time watching rap videos. They discovered that more adolescents watched sexual content un these videos the more likely they were to engage in the risky sexual behaviors (Nakia). This leads to the rise of STD's and teen pregnancies that ruins families socially, emotional, and financially. Another experiment-performed by researchers from Western Connecticut University, found that teens who listen to sings with violent lyrics have a higher chance of being more violent (Nakia). Not only do "Gucci Gang's" lyrics promotes risky sexual behavior it also promotes violence which guides teens into thinking it is healthy to practice these illegal behaviors. Rapping about drugs and alcohol causes teens to deem them socially acceptable.
