Informative Speech Preparation Outline
Steroids in Major League Baseball
General Purpose: To inform my audience about the steroid usage in Major League Baseball, our national pastime.
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience why players take steroids in Baseball and how it has affected the game today.
Thesis: Steroids in Major League Baseball has affected the game in both positive and negative ways. It brought baseball back to life in the 90’s; it has tarnished records, and has affected the game even today.
Organizational Pattern: Casual. In my thesis, I talked about the good thing about steroids at first, but then my other two points were bad things about it. There is no real order for what I have in my presentation. I. INTRODUCTION A. Attention Getter: “Chicks dig the long ball.” Out of all of the exciting things that happen in baseball, the thing that attracts the people the most is the homerun. B. Relevance to Audience: Baseball is America’s game, and that is why it is our National Pastime. When people hear the work America, they think of hot dogs, fireworks, freedom, and baseball. C. Credibility Statement: I have been playing baseball since I could walk, and I follow Major League Baseball like it’s my job. My favorite team is the Chicago Cubs, and when their former right fielder, Sammy Sosa, had steroid allegations swirling around him, I really took interest to it. I did my research paper in high school about Steroids in Major League Baseball; it is just something that really interests me. Now I want to be able to teach to my fellow audience what it’s all about. D. Thesis: Steroids in Major League Baseball has affected the game in both positive and negative ways. It brought baseball back to life in the 90’s; it has tarnished records, and has affected the game even today. E. Preview: Home runs are the most exciting thing in baseball. It’s what is behind the homerun that raises
