National surveys estimate that approximately 1 million young people between ages 12 and 17 have taken performance-enhancing supplements or drugs. Drugs not being allowed in sports is very crucial because it shows who works for where they are and how well they're doing it. But even sometimes the players you look up to know as an idol are probably using it. Performance enhancing drugs should not be allowed in sports.
Performance enhancers (steroids) may give you amazing results but have horrible symptoms. However, many athletes say that this is the only way to get amazing results in a short amount of time and say that it is very easy to get it. High school and college athletes who, because of what they did in their youth, could be vulnerable

However, many people say it's just because they can't handle it. It is a federal crime to use steroids to increase strength even if the user is not an athlete. Human growth hormone is in a unique regulatory category in that it is a felony to prescribe it for any purpose other than a particular use approved by the FDA. A Father testified that his son committed suicide after using steroids when in fact he killed himself after his family caught him using steroids, which the boy had turned to meet his family’s athletic aspirations (Mehlman). Some people can’t handle what steroids do to you, but that just doesn’t mean you should go out and try it to see if you can feel the effects. Many teenagers are being pressured to use drugs by people around them including their family. Some even go into a very deep depression, and some end up committing suicide. Other things that happen are the symptoms, and they mess up your body.
Steroids shouldn’t be allowed to be in sports because it can cause death at an early age or maybe even death. Teens shouldn't be pressured to be an athletic freak by their families; that is one of the reasons why 1 million teens between the ages of 12 and 17. If we stop using steroid or performance enhancers, then you might be able to see a difference in an athlete's ability to perform, but at least, he won’t be having to deal with all the symptoms from it at an early age. All you need to do is share what happens when you use steroids and why you shouldn’t use them and maybe you can make this world a better

The usage of steroids gives the user an unfair advantage over other athletes that have worked hard to gain muscle mass without using steroids. It is easy for someone to cheat and win. With steroids, you are tricking your body. You are creating something that is not you, and that is why you are cheating. It is estimated that as many as six million Americans have used or currently use steroids. It is unbelievable that somebody could somehow live more easily and more pleasantly because of chemicals. It is fine if someone is using steroids to recover from an injury so they can get back to work and behave like an ordinary person, but God forbid they should use anymore steroids than necessary and become unusually strong. That would be morally wrong. In the same way, it is fine if people use Prozac to feel normal, and it is fine if they use Xanax to calm down before giving a speech; as long as these drugs are used only for the point of functioning as a citizen. However, as soon as the person starts using Xanax for fun it becomes morally wrong. Athletes should be regulated closely because anabolic steroids are considered cheating. The use of these drugs violates the rules of all athletics. Anabolic steroids are traced far back in…

Drugs can do a lot of bad things for an athletes body. Meyer, Stephen wrote,¨ Epo can increase the number of red blood cells to such a degree that the blood becomes too thick to flow properly, potentially leading to heart attacks and strokes.¨(Meyer). Taking drugs like these can lead to death, a win is not worth more than an athlete's life. Another bad thing steroids can do is lead to Cardiovascular problems. Meyer, Stephen said in his article,¨Some studies have associates steroid use with serious cardiovascular problems, including cardiomyopathies (inflammation of the heart muscle), irregular heart rhythm, development of embolisms( blockage of an artery by a clot or particle that is carried in the bloodstream), and the heart failure.¨(Meyer). This is another health issue that can lead to death which is not worth it. People who take or sell steroids should understand that a life is at risk. People have to understand that what may seem to be a harmless enhancer can actually lead to someone's…

The United State is a country that thrives on competition. We idolize our sports stars and practically make major athletic events holidays. Children grow up with their favorite athletes plastered to the wall of their bedrooms and dream that one day they will be the next Barry Bonds, Shaqullie O 'Neal, or Tom Brady. Professional athletes train year-round to be in ideal psychical shape in order to perform their best. But what happens when their best just isn 't good enough? We expect our sports stars to be perfect, upstanding citizens and role models but this isn 't always the case. The recent exposure of athletes using steroids has exploded into a phenomenon involving athletes all around the world. It has cheapened sports and cast doubt on the integrity of our athletes. Many athletes who decide to take steroids don’t realize the side effects they can possibly deal with. They usually don’t care though because they would rather take the risk of trying to reach the professionals where they can possibly make millions of dollars and reach stardom. The most common type of steroid used by athletes are anabolic-androgenic steroids. Steroid Abuse in Today's Society, a March 2004 publication of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) Office of Diversion Control, defines anabolic steroids as "synthetically produced variants of the naturally occurring male hormone testosterone"(Robert Jacobson, 2006). There are many unfair advantages users have over those who don’t take steroids. They help enhance physical performance by increasing muscle size and strength and help train faster in less time. It is also known to increase an athlete’s agility and speed. The drug also helps users recover a lot quicker, which in terms means the athlete can get back to training a lot sooner than normal. All of this means that a user can get more gains by putting in less work, compared to training…

The use of drugs to enhance performance in sports has occurred since the time of the original Olympic Games from 776 to 393 BC-2015.The origin of the word 'doping' is attributed to the Dutch word 'dope,' which is a viscous opium juice, the drug of choice of the ancient Greeks. For years there has been an ongoing argument about whether performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) should be legalised in professional sports. The use of performance-enhancing drugs, commonly known as doping, has been happening behind the scenes. You hear about the athletes in the first Olympic Games (776 B.C.) improving their fights and recovering quickly from fatigue and injuries during their battles by using hallucinogens and stimulants. In my opinion, PEDs should be legalised due…

Most athletes induce steroids into their body with the hopes that it will help them improve their abilities to run faster, lift heavier weights, jump higher or hit farther (Freudenrich). Obsessed with the possible results, they ignore the fact that anabolic steroids are just like any other drug, riddled with serious side affects and are illegal in the United States without a prescription. One of the most controversial issues with all athletes are steroids. How harmful are they? Is it worth the risk to get a competitive edge on the game? Should it be banned from sports? Steroids are not the answer; not only are there physical bad side effects, there are also psychological effects short and long term. The history of steroids dates back to the 1930s, the were taking from male testosterone originally. They were used to treat HIV-AIDS and cancer. They also helped stimulate bone growth and appetite, in order to help those who had trouble with weight gain. An example of this was a man named Barry Tyson who was suffering from HIV and took steroids in order to help build more mass in order to fight off infections from the disease. He noted that, within the first dosage he had taking at night he woke up the next day feeling like a new man and had abundant sources of energy. Some were along theses lines of using it for good medical use and healing it was lost for the benefit of athletes.…

The harms steroids can cause on the athlete are not the only concern when taking them. Steroids give athletes that boost in their performance which puts them above their competitors. This gives for an unfair advantage among the players. Since steroids work so well and create an unfair advantage, it breaks the social contract athletes agree to: “We are going to have a fair contest” (“ProCon.org”). Sports are about competition on equal footing, with respect for the opponent, and with respect for the rules of the game (“Why Steroids Have No Place in Sports”). Even if there were a safe substance for enhancing performance, if it wasn’t equally available to everyone it would still be considered cheating.…

Athletes, student-athletes, and average joes play sports for the competition, fun, and satisfaction of doing well. This satisfaction of doing well the athletes feel tend to overpower their minds and make them want to become even better. This results in, the usage and over usage of HGH. Human growth hormones help make the athlete stronger, hence, the performance enhancement. These drugs have serious side effects that are hard to get rid of, such as, liver failure, neurological issues, and HIV. The athletes who have knowledge on what can potentially happen to them just flies right over their head, and they continue to cheat at the sports they get paid to play. Because taking HGH is considered cheating there are punishments if they are caught. Mr. Hernandez, a teacher and former professional bodybuilder, said the punishment for a first offense was a one year suspension. If it happened a second time, the bodybuilder was banned from competition. Some sports do ban the players, but most do not.…

As it stands, almost all forms of performance-enhancing drugs are banned, no matter their strength or potency. This can catch athletes off guard, as substances that are considered illegal in the eyes of sporting authorities, are often found in common antibiotics and medicines. Permitting the use of all performance enhancing drugs would take away this grey area, and allow athletes to use any forms of personal medication without having to fear being caught ‘cheating’.…
