Steve Monologue
"Give me your lunch money," Nicole said.

“No,” Emily said.

“What did you just say?”

“I said no.”

“You’re going to be sorry.”

Nicole and Emily got into a fight and Emily won.

While Emily was dealing with bullying at school, Steve and Shelly started to hang out. They got along so well, that Steve quickly developed feelings for her. Steve eventually asked Shelly out and she said yes. Since Steve and Shelly started to date, he enjoyed his job. To make things better, Steve and Shelly got a new supervisor, who was very friendly.

In general, Steve was happy with his life. But of course, it wasn’t perfect. Ever since Frank moved in, Larry became a control freak, and he belittled and intimidated Steve and Emily almost every day.

“You can’t cook, you can’t clean, and you can’t do laundry. You can’t do the simplest things and you’ll never be able to. You’ll never get anywhere in life, no matter how hard you try! And you’re going act your fucking age and get a haircut! I won’t let you leave the house until you do! It’s no wonder why you can’t get a job.”

“I already have a job,” Steve said.

“Watch your mouth!” Larry screamed. “And stop your fucking screaming!”

“You’re the one who’s screaming.”

“This is my house. I can do whatever I want! Now, give me the keys to your car!”

“I paid for that car!”

“Well, I’m paying for the insurance! Give me the fucking keys!”

Steve handed Larry the keys.

“If grandpa was here, he’d ask you what’s your major malfunction,” Steve said.

“Well, he’s not here,” Larry said. "You always were an instigator. That’s why you got into all of those fights in school.”

Some of Steve's classmates used to pick on him. When Steve was in middle school, several bullies would verbally abuse him and he would ignore them. This would anger the bullies, so they would beat Steve up.

Larry struck nerve with Steve, because this was a sensitive topic. This resulted in Steve punching his father in the face, giving him a bloody nose.

“Get out!” Larry

Blood is a fascinating hue. It’s sometimes crimson, scarlet, ruby red, or even bold red. Crimson is the stain that’s painted on my fingers, since I just accomplished a mission-to murder Simon Krell, who continued torturing his family members on a daily basis. Although he continued being a dangerous man, it was so simple to kill him that it occurred to be laughable, all the acting skills I needed was to pretend to act alike his maid and suddenly shoot the filthy person. As I laughed, my storm eyes gazed at the glowing sky that had waves of gleaming dots on it. A silver ellipse remained framed in the inky sky, supported with millions of winking balls of fire.…

It can be speculated that his dominance is gained due to his incestual, violent, and abusive behavior. His dominance and control is realized most often by Ginny, the narrator. An example of this is when she states, “Instinctively, I followed [Dad’s] gaze, just to check on what he might be thinking about before disturbing him” (Smiley, 145). Larry makes a few gazes like this throughout the novel. Ginny goes on to state that these gazes give her a “room-darkening chill” (Smiley, 318). This type of feeling is somewhat disturbing. Ginny realizes her father’s authority and identity. Whether or not Larry gazes consciously or unconsciously is not the point here, the point is that Ginny realizes his dominance and control just from how he goes about looking at things. Most of these gazes that I will mention are also followed by an uneasy silence, which is a strong argument that these gazes are conscious and for a reason.…

I pulled my beanie securely on my head as I crouched down on a sturdy tree branch. My hunting knife reflected the dim light of the moon. It glinted letting my prey know I was there. "Yeah, I love a good chase!" I jumped from branch to branch as I chase my target. His brown hair was starting to gray but he ran pretty good for someone in their late forties. At least that's what boss lady said. I jumped down quietly as the man began to get tired. He began huffing as his pace slowed. I knocked into his back sending him into a tree. His chest heavily moved with his ragged breaths. I slowly approached him as I pulled my hunting knife back out. "Let play," I said in a deadpan tone. My eyes lost their light as I stared down at him.…

    A Cap For Steve Essay

    • 1033 Words
    • 5 Pages

The conflict in “A Cap For Steve” that exists between Steve and his father relates to the theme of understanding one another, even when their opinions and way of life greatly differ from one another’s. Steve unknowingly teaches his father Dave that there is more to life than simply knowing the value of money, despite the hardships the Diamond family was faced with at the time. Steve’s optimism conflicts with his father Dave’s realistic and practical way of living. This conflict between their personalities puts a strain on their relationship for most of the story, until the very end when they share a bonding moment and take a brief yet meaningful step into one another’s shoes. Steve and Dave both undergo great character development as they learn to appreciate and understand one another. In Morley Callaghan’s “A Cap For Steve” the conflict between Steve’s carefree optimism and unconditional happiness in contrast to his father’s realistic views and pessimism, ultimately brings them closer together.…

The friendship that Larry Ott and Silas have is a secret friendship. If one reads this book then they would wonder how their friendship could be so undercover. Larry lived under the suspicion of killing Cindy for years. One brother was a black boy and the other was a white guy. Larry Ott and Silas “32” were really good friends, but the question is, “Can you really be someone’s friend, but stop all because of one little flaw”. Crooked is what the audience would have thought that Larry was. One would say this because of the constant accusations of him being a killer. The two friends were separated by terrible things, and certain people would not just get passed a situation like this. This book is about how the past reaches into the future and how things that happened in the past can haunt your future. The past also manipulated Larry’s feelings towards certain things. “Their lives had stopped, frozen, as if in…
