1) The charge against Steven Truscott was that he was convicted of first degree murder.
2) Steven Truscott committed the crime on June 9, 1959. The crime took place when she disappeared from the Air Force Base that was South of Clinton, Ontario. She was then found in Lawson’s Bush.
3) The Crown’s theory was that the crown theorized that Steven and Lynne met at the bases’ school, Lynne had hitched a ride off of Steven’s bike and road into Lawson’s bush where he had raped and strangled her. Forensic evidence used by the crown to establish that Lynne Harper had died before 7:45pm on June 9. Death was determined by Dr. Peniston by basing it off of her stomach contents. Lesions were also observed by Dr. Peniston on Steven’s penis, caused by aggravated force. Steven was seen with Lynne on the evening that Lynne Harper disappeared, which was used by the crown to establish that Steven must have taken Lynne into Lawson’s bush, according to Arnold Butch George, Steven’s best friend, had also said that he met Jocelyne 20 minutes after 7pm, near Lawson’s bush, but did not see Lynne or Steven. He had said that he went to Steven’s house later that night and had a conversation about Lynne. Butch said Steven told him to lie to the police about seeing him.. Joslin Gaudette had testified that she and Steven were supposed to go on a date, so she had went to the bush to meet Steven. When she didn’t see him, she biked down to the river, yelled Steven’s name into the woods, waited 10 minutes, and left to Farmer Lawson’s bush to look. After, Farmer Bob Lawson had testified that Joslin had indeed came to look for Steven, but left after ten minutes to go back to look for him. But stopped to talk to Butch, as she saw him, and stopped to talk to him, asking if he had seen Steven and Butch had told her he hadn’t’. She went to the bridge for about 10 minutes, did see him, then went back home.
4) The defence’s Theory was that Truscott had left home at 6:30pm to get coffee
