One in four people in the world suffers from a mental illness every day. Over 30% of students attending high school have reported problems due to a mental illness. A mental illness can affect the way a person thinks, feels and behaves to any …show more content…
situation. These illnesses can change the way they see themselves. They may feel ashamed, unspoken, or excessive worry and sadness. It has been known that these people are different than us; when they just react to situations differently than a normal person would. The more society puts them down, the harder it will be for them to realize that they are all like us.
Society's stigma has prevented teachings and awareness on these people which has enhanced their feeling of ashamedness.
The more the subject is brought up, the harder it is to control. People that find fun in stigmatizing mental disorders tend to make bad problems into worse problems. The way these people put a label on others make it harder for the people struggling. They start to feel alone and out of the “group” of society. Mental illnesses are not something to make fun of or bully others for. They already have enough to try to control their thoughts and feelings. The way others see them is almost as a trigger, or I guess you could say symptom to their illness. This isn't just disrespecting to the person themselves. It is disrespectful to them, their parents, their peers, and teachers. Words, actions, and thoughts could change how the person sees themselves. It hurts them emotionally in ways you couldn't imagine The way you think of others could impact their life more than you
see.
It would almost be impossible to change how these sick people could change their ways. There are some different options to try to prevent it such as harder consequences. Adults don’t see everything of teenagers lives and the hurtful things they do to others. They get away with almost anything hateful they do. I would like to think that harder consequences would help the fact that they tear these people down for something they can’t change about themselves. The truth is that there isn’t much changing we are capable of. They will continue to do so until they feel they should change their actions. Stigmatizing ones with mental disorders are not going to get these hurtful people anywhere.
