Untold Story of “Nam”

During the Vietnam War germen shepherds were needed to seek out mines, other booby traps, ambushes, etc...The government needed recruits and had high school students register to join the military. This is where Duke and Kyle came in. Duke was a germen shepherd for the military also known as K94324. He had a beautiful coat, the colors of his coat was mixed beautifully. He had a temper though, that’s why no one wanted to work with him. Anyone who got near Duke he would tear there heads off (not literally). People weren’t sure what was going to become of him with that much aggression inside of him. But, there just happened to be a new kid named Kyle Ross from Minnesota who never had an animal in his life, just got out of high school, and wanted to show people what he could do. He wandered by Duke’s cage every so often stopped a couple times but Duke never let him get to close. One day Lieutenant Cooper posted a piece of paper on the wall that listed what recruits were assigned to what dog. Just happened that Kyle was assigned to Duke. Kyle thought what’s so hard about training a dog. “A piece of cake” said Kyle but a older fellow remarked “that’s what you think kid, you have the meanest dog in Nam.” Kyle didn’t exactly know how to respond to that so he didn’t say anything. Later that afternoon Kyle made a trip over to the kennels and found the cage that was marked K94324 the dog‘s id number. This was the dog, he stopped leaned down and Duke leaped at the cage and Kyle fell to his butt, everybody laughed. Kyle remarked “this is going to be a long day.” He tried studying the dog to see if there were physical problems with the dog but Duke appeared to be in good health. Kyle just couldn’t figure it out, how can an animal have so much hatred towards humans. Finally Kyle went and asked one of his lieutenants for any history on K94324. He received papers about Duke saying he was abandoned at a young age then abused. The military only took him

When Tailgate was around four years of age, I had to present a speech about BSL. I took Tailgate to class with me in order to present a “pit bull” that was not a man eater. He was so good. He laid in the class until it was time to go. People was approaching him and petting him, and he laid in one spot. The second time that Tailgate went to a classroom event, my friend Courtney assisted me. There were people that were anxious when we entered the classroom. Tailgate paid no attention but sat next to Courtney. When I finished my presentation the class began to clap. Tailgate must have thought that the clapping was for him, so he raised up as tall as he could, and began to bark. Courtney began to smile, and introduced Tailgate to some of the…

Dan Pardee a Shadow Wolf who works homeland security on the Tohono O’odham Nation by the Mexican border. Dan also used to be a soldier where himself and his dog Bozo were always misunderstood, which didn’t change when they returned home to Arizona. Although Dan was half Apache he didn’t understand the language which made him an outsider on the reservation, While since he was half Apache that made him an outsider in the Anglo world. Dan explains how people gossips about the “ultimate outsider”(90) who’s dog is so aggressive one will surely lose a finger or two if they come too close(87-91). My reaction to this passage was surprised because I couldn’t understand why someone who had served in the army, and was now serving as a Shadow Wolf would be alienated. Even though he was half Apache and half Anglo he still was a just a human being who had fought for the every soil the people in and out of the reservation where standing on. Dan had done nothing wrong, it was just society had seen him as not perfect in their eyes so he outcasted. This passage got the most reaction out of me because of the way society treated Dan even though he did so much for our country. I felt angry and horrified of the effect society can affect one person so much, and how society was completely okay with…

On the other end of the spectrum, those who have experience with the APBT argue that it is a dog’s environment - its training, socialization and, most importantly, interaction with its owners - that produces a good or a bad dog. They further argue that while the APBT may have initially been selectively bred by some to be fighters, over the past several decades, they have been selectively bred to not be fighters, thus producing a breed of dog that makes an excellent companion and working dog. Quite frankly, their temperament and disposition develop just like any other dog - at the hands of their…

Not all pit bulls are aggressive ; pit bulls are trained to be aggressive for dog fighting and to be guard dogs. Pit bulls are used to fight but not all pit bulls though. Organizations responsible for placing dogs seized from dogfighting investigations often must determine if a particular dog should be euthanized because it was too dangerous or if it’s safe to place the dog in an adoptive home. We collected data from 279 pit bull type dogs seized as evidence in four organized dogfighting investigations conducted from 2012-2015. In the evaluation, dogs were exposed to a variety of situations that stimulated what they would experience in a typical shelter or home environment, including being petted and…

“And very little is known about these free-ranging, village dogs.” His team rectified that by collecting blood samples from 549 village dogs in 38 countries across 6 continents. “I did my Ph.D. work with tropical butterflies; by comparison, working with dogs is fantastic,” he adds. “You don’t need to hunt them down with a net. You show up, you have food, there are dogs.” (http://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2015/10/genetic-study-writes-yet-another-origin-story-for-dogs/411196/) Dogs have always been considered “Mans Best Friend.” However that title has barely lived up to it’s name when there are still dogs all around the world that get abused and murdered by their owners. Dogs who get dropped off in the middle of nowhere because their owners just can’t keep up with them anymore. Dogs who are euthanized because they’ve been in the pound so long and there is no hope for them to ever be rescued, may that be because of old age or even a history of biting people. Dogs are not born monsters, humans created the idea. Dogs may hurt you because of their past experiences with lousy…

Vietnam was a place like no other. It was swarmed with presence of stories, some strange, some nefarious, and some just utterly incredible. But for those who think like me, Vietnam, even in its times of horror and imperfections, can really bring out the very true nature in someone. Like the way someone stands upon his feet after numerous bumps and blows, like the grit that one shows after driven against the wall — the true character of one person is dictated and influenced by his or her environment and how he or she chooses to deal with it. It does not depend on how he or she appears to look like at first. If a person’s character is easily discernable, don’t believe it because it is lie.…
